ACC WRESTLING TOURNAMENT ......

We have tow matches against VT in the finals but none against UVA. if Zanetta beats Dance I don't think VT will catch us. UVA is another story.

We really need Mack and PJ to win their third place matches and Bono to win the 5th place match.

Mack won his 3rd place match, PJ and Bono yet to wrestle.

Ugh, Bono....No urgency, poor riding ability and no angles on his shots today. Normally he is clear behind on his sweep, instead he got stuck in front and extended on all of his shots the past three matches. Has a good enough body of work this year that he should get an At Large, but not the situation you want to be in.

VT is 10 points ahead of Pitt in the team score going to the finals*

Today seems to be the start of a Pitt-VT rivalry. All the noise about Peters and Dresser going at it, and Tasser tweeted something about Walz throwing elbows and the VT coaches running their mouths. Things seem to be getting a bit hostile. That last round definitely went in VT's favor, lets see if Pitt can respond in the finals

And we have 5 in the finals, right? How many do they have and how do they score this--I know ZERO about wrestling--what do you think our chances are of winning it?

We have 5 in the finals and I think VT has 4 ...... 2 matches in the finals have Pitt vs VT wrestlers.

I'm not sure about the team point scoring .... someone will have to help with that.

125 - Kraisser (NC) dec Zanetta (Pitt) 5-3 OT ....

Zanetta gave up a takedown with a few seconds to go in regulation for Kraisser to tie the match, then Kraisser won it with a take down in OT..... Zanetta blew it.

Re: Bright certainly had the shots in deep couldn't or wouldnt finish

Yeah, he got in on some good double legs but seemed tentative and didn't finish ...... as he matures and gets more experience hopefully he will finish those moves.

149- Neibert (VT) dec Racciato (Pitt) 3-1 OT ....

again bad for Pitt.

Strange match. hardly touched each other on their feet. Like playing

slow down wrestling.

Re: Strange match. hardly touched each other on their feet. Like playing

Both were very cautious.

VT has clinched the title. They had 3 wrestlers in the final so far and are 3-0 including 2 wins over Pitt. Pitt is 0-3.

I hate to say it but this is another example of Pitt not performing well in tournaments: Zanetta, seeded #1 at 125 is up 3-1 late in the 3rd period and gives up a takedown and then another in OT. Mack seeded #1 at 133 pinned by a wrestler from MD in his first match.

Bono ranked #2 at 197 goes 1-3 and finishes 6th. Tasser seeded #3 loses the third place match.

Bright and Mikey both make it to the finals and both lose to VT wrestlers. Garbinsky loses first bout at 157 and the loses second consolation bout, getting absolutely blown out.

We still have Wilps and Max left but they can't score enough points to win it. UVA could drop us to 3rd if they win at 157 and 165 and we lose both matches.

A new coach. More promise. But same old Pitt come tourney time. Mikey did better than his seed. Unless Max wins at 184 he will be the only wrestler from Pitt to finish higher than his seed while thus far 4 have finished lower.

184- Sheptock (MD) dec Thomusseit (Pitt) 3-1 ....

tough match ..... looked like Thomusseit might get a take down to win but Sheptock turned it into a take down for him to win.

Pitt only has one ACC champ .....

Wilps at 174 .... the other 4 finalists (Zanetta, Bright, Racciato, and Thomusseit) for Pitt all lost in the finals.

Disapointing final. Thought Zanetta gave hs match away at end of third. The

freshman have good futures. another year of Wilps. The announcer said Max was a red shirt junior, is that true? thought he was red shirt senior.

Yeah, Zanetta blew it ....... the two freshman had tough matches ...... Wilps looked good ..... Thomusseit lost to the #1 ranked wrestler in the country at 184.

Thomusseit is a redshirt junior !

Here is how you win a tournament: VT had 4 champions. Only 1 was a top seed. One was a 2 seed and two were 3 seeds. None of their wrestlers wrestled badly. Dance was the 2 seed at 125 and finished third. Every other Vt wrestler matched or bettered his seed.

By contrast, Pitt had three #1 seeds and only Wilps won. Mikey was the only Pitt wrestler to finish higher than his seed. He was seeded fourth and finished second. Bright and Max finished second, which is where they were seeded. Every other Pitt wrestler finished lower than his seed. That is how you lose a tournament. Two guts wrestled unbelievably stupid matches: Mack getting pinned in his first match by getting greedy and Z getting taken down with seconds left while up 3-1. Bright had a lot of opportunities against Carter but kept taking half shots and then backing away. Mikey seemed to be afraid to shoot in the last period and then got taken down quickly in OT. Max had a really good chance of scoring late on Sheptock but Sheptock ended up getting the takedown. He was the better wrestler. Garbinsky and Bono had awful tournaments. Morelli did about what you would expect. He just isn't strong enough to beat good wrestlers in that weight class.

If UVA had won a title at either 174 or 197 they could have beaten us out for second.

By the way, UVA, VT, UNC and NC State all have top 20 recruiting classes coming in per Intermat.

Wow, a RS junior! That just made my day. Gonna be greta in upper

weights again. Plus having Cody, and Solomon in from RS's and Rizzo at HWT. Wow, some good workout partners in the room next season, and tough elimination matches. Will Wilps go to 84 and Max to 97? Can Cody cut to 165?
