Well, this makes it crystal clear. Hey, he is just a kid but boy the article makes it clear that this kids blows in the direction of where he is in a given week. This young man is not a Pitt commit... still might come here... but "commitment" is not a term that matches this kid. Just is what it is....

Pull his scholarship - I'm sry but, I hate this waffling.

Every week there's a new team as his "leader".

Let me ask y'all a question - have we EVER seen a recruit act like this before???

Get him outta here.

Relax...the kid tells whoever his audience is what they want to hear. He's just a kid who doesn't like hurting people's feelings. If he finds someplace he likes more...good for him. If not...Pitt gets a great player.

I would ordinarily agree, but I think it's time Pitt moves on..

"Pitt is another option but Butler said he's not sure how things will turn out with the school.

"It's kind of a difficult situation because I have such a good relationship with the coaches and the city," Butler said. "It's hard to break away. I definitely want to take my official visits and branch out a little bit. Hopefully they understand that. If they don't and I have to decommit, I understand that as well. It's really one of those decisions I had to make. I talked to my mom about it and she said I have to follow my heart and follow my dreams.""

Right. Don't commit if you are not ready, if you can't handle the backlash by decomitting.

I'm not saying it is right for fans to do, but if someone commits and beats the drum of that school, they think you are in and expect you to be in.

If you take visits and then say things like above, people will question you. I only hope he has been upfront with the Pitt coaches.

I still say he should decomit and move on.

man, I give these coaches credit for putting up with the whims of a 17 year old kid. Not an easy job recruiting. Just have to keep staying on him. But in the dream scenario that Hamlin, Hudson & Coleman would sign on very shortly, only then would I yank the offer.

Why are you all so emotional about a teenager ?

He will be here next year or he won't .
Your life is no different.

He should do what's in his best interest, not what makes some bored adults emotionally comfortable.

Let me start by saying that I really won't lose any sleep one way or the other regarding Butler...if he comes to Pitt that's great and if he chooses to go elsewhere, we have plenty of solid options at DB.

That said, the kid should just de-commit. I have absolutely no issue with any kid changing their mind...it's their life and their decision. They should do what they think is best for their future. What drives me a little crazy is the thought that these kids want to tie up a scholarship (based on the possibility that they'll come) but they still want to "shop around'. Shop around all you want, but understand that there may or may not be a scholarship available if and when you decide. It's your decision, but it's also your peril.

If we were down to our final two ships...I would agree. That's not the case.

This is some great stuff.
I say he stays near Ohio, whether it is Pitt or Michigan. The difference I see why would he turn down learning Defense under Coach Pat & Staff especially the Defensive Back position. It is a long flight to ASU for his Parents and Friends versus short drive to Pitt? I have no problem with him looking at other schools. Pitt offer him many opportunities to play sooner and better!

Pitt is probably not relying on the strength of this commitment and recruiting this position hard. Likewise, Pitt will not turn down commitments for this spot all the way up to signing day. Butler should decommit or stop saying other schools are his leader while still committed to Pitt.

I would expect that the coaching staff will follow their own hearts and dreams if Mr Butler blows out his knee this season. They probably don't dream of a knee injured DB. If a kid id totally committed, then you stand by them when injured. If not, well follow your hearts coaching staff.

I wish I was a fly on he wall during Butler's convos with The Fraud. We have definitely given other couches enough ammo to use against us in recent years... I highly doubt The Fraud held much back.
In reality, Fraud can't say squat about Pitt, except that he got paid damn well for what he did here. Most of his recruits didn't last...he played "give-away" when Pitt blew a nice lead to Iowa in one of the worst coaching performances in recent years...and besides, Pitt has a new Chancellor, a new AD, and a greater commitment to winning. So what negative thing can he say about Pitt NOW?

I was gonna say, "Those cheapskates at Pitt wouldn't give my kid a real panther costume to wear", but your quote is better.
Unfortunately it's likely more real than a joke. The struggles in recruiting in both basketball and football in the past couple years, are a real trend. Shows that Pitt has to up the ante in what it's willing to offer recruits. It's always been sleazy but getting more so. The racket is changing and Pitt ain't keeping up.

Oh I agree, don't get me wrong. But honestly, the dude has the gift of spin. Our resume has been checkered as of late. Combine that with Fraud's "insider" (B.S.) information and we have a nice recipe for "ASU is now my leader". Maybe I'm paranoid.

I think AZ has a great shot at getting him, unless Harbaugh decides that he wants him. My opinion, based on nothing, is that he's Michigan's to lose. Fortunately for Pitt, this is happening now and not after the season when many of the better players are already committed.

Screw him. I said it two weeks ago that he was using us and got hammered. Good riddance. Used us to climb.

Well you can bet that he harps on the attendance and game day atmosphere issues and rightly or wrongly probably makes representations about the comparative support of the FB programs at Pitt and ASU. You can bet he's not hung up on the veracity of his claims and his having coached at Pitt probably, to an 18yr. Old, gives some credence to his propaganda.

Once again, it's chicken before the egg. In this business of college football (and it's a cutthroat business, even more than pro sports, which is socialism), capital investment is needed up front to create an attractive product. Only then will customers will come.

Those chastising fans for not blindly coming out to root for "dear old Pittsburgh and the glory of the game" only to see pastings by Akron and Houston, shoot stick with pro sports, where they artificially reward losing teams by giving them the best new players the following year. That sh*t ain't happening in college sports. Winners get the spoils, and the spoils can be tremendous. But they have to become winners first. No charity "draft lotteries" or "supplemental drafts" exist. Schools have to supply their own capital up front. That means significant upfront coin.

I like Narduzzi, he and his staff exude far more promise than Chryst and his gang of idiots ... perhaps they will be the blind squirrels who find the golden acorn for us. But Pitt bumping its spending on coaches up a mere two million shows that the commitment is still lacking. That's cost of living increase in this business, nothing more. We are still following the dubious business plan of hoping for blind-ass luck.

Even then, it's no guarantee, as basketball is showing. Even if you strike gold against all odds, as Pitt did with Howland/Dixon, you have to keep it up. JD lost his excellent assistants, and they were replaced with garbage, plus placed draconian limits on players (aka Durand), which has turned recruiting sour, and the program is suddenly struggling mightily.

"Fraud" is indeed in a unique position to explain this to recruits as you say, because it's exactly why he left,,,screaming into the night...cuz he saw the writing on the wall.

No doubt, Pitt needs some good fortune to get the ball rolling in FB and then hope that the new administration and coaching staff have the

Well, the one thing I think Pitt finally understands is a successful football program can bank roll all the other sports. The problem is there is no guarentee of success now matter how much you invest. The only guarentee is you can't succeed without some investment.
If Narduzzi and company somehow win more than 8 games this year. I hope the administration does the right thing and rewards these guys. And I'm not just talking salary either! Commit to any upgrade these coaches feel are needed as well.
