Not sure what to make of this season. It appears to be shaping up as a "women and children victims" theme which is disappointing. They cast a strong female character, but oh no - she too has been a victim. And men aren't coming off any better (Viagra in bowls?) - at least men with power/money. And I'll admit I had to google who the heck was Stan. Way too much symbolism here for my taste. I enjoy a complex tale as much as anyone else, but I find myself trying to understand all the details, which takes away from the simplicity of the unfolding scene. And in my googling about Stan, I learned they actually have been adding verses to the opening song. As if I even thought of that.

Anyways, a link to a theory on Lt. Burris for those who are interested.

I have been waiting for this thread. They are TRYING too hard to make it TOO COMPLEX in my opinion. There are two episodes left. I am still trying to figure out the plot, let alone a "who dunnit" What are they even investigating anymore? What is Frank so pissed off abot? Little kids have become to Frank (Vince Vaughn) like the ducks in the Sopranos were too Tony Soprano.

And for such a morose show, it lacks the horror factor of some the 1st series crimes.

Morose for sure but was I the only one who was surprised by the music during the party scene? I get the drugs theme, but it actually made me look around because it was so different from both seasons.

I was looking at naked chicks. LOL.. Will have to watch it again.

It's absolutely unwatchable. Frankly, I think the first season was poorly written but made watchable by the cast.

I still am having trouble dealing with the fact that "Justified" is over and "Longmire" is only going to be available on Netflix. But, I hope HBO puts this program out of its misery while we wait for season six of "Game Of Thrones."

I think we are seeing a writer that thinks he is smarter than everyone else so he tries to spin a tangled web that really in this season is struggling to go anywhere. ...

Or the accusation that he plagerized season 1 material is showing itself true as season 2 is a clear struggle.

I would say it has not been horrible so far, but every single character doesn't need to talk in gruff whisper voice.

Not sure if any of you follow jeff Jensen at ew.com, but I love this guy since his very analytical recaps of Lost years ago. He does True Detective and isn't one to pull punches when he sees weak shows. His theory is casper lives, and Dr Rick Springfield did plastic surgery on someone else to make him look like casper.

I thought the music to the party scene was very well done, it made it tense for once this season. ... but to luckily stumble upon the missing girl in the corner, I just wasn't buying it. Vince Vaughn just isn't working. When he told the story of dad on a bender locking him in the basement and rats eating his finger, I laughed.

I agree on stan. Who is stan?

I might be in the minority, but I really like the struggle and uncomfortable feeling you get watching the supervised visit. I like that part of the story as it makes at least one character human

Agree stongly that they are trying too hard, from the story, to the muffled way everyone talks to HOW they talk, to the forced toning of it ...

They are trying to do what david milch did in deadwood and steven bocho did in hill street blues w creating language to have their characters say things a little different, but it just confuses you more.

I actually think the frank character is coming into focus and vaughn is doing a solid, not great, but solid job w it. BUT, I think he has to die to make it all work.

I noted in the string after the first episode, the first season was about two characters, this is about four, just not enough time to do the three dimensional exploration of four main characters AND successfully weave such a convoluted story.

I just try REALLY hard to forget season one to try to enjoy it.

Pretty good shootout a couple of weeks ago, though.

Bingo! After enjoying the first season, I started watching Season 2. But after the first two episodes, I punted.

Maybe it's just me, but I can be a "lazy television-watcher": I watch to be entertained and so that I don't have to think too hard. After those first two episodes, I couldn't follow it, so it lost me as a viewer.

That shootout almost made me quit watching. C'mon. Le's get real. That thing was so overblown and amateurish that it just about ruined the whole series. People on a protest march. full scale shootout ensues. Then the top of a building explodes. The shootout continues. and 10 minutes later these protesters have to scramble out of the way of getaway vehicles as if they never heard a thing.

It was definitely a good scene, sort of a poor man's shoot out in Heat, but even at that, almost bizarrely out of place given that outside of Ray going unhinged on people and the odd scene with Frank pulling teeth out of the fat guy, the series has been boringly nonviolent for the most part.

Agree. They are trying too hard and it is ending up looking like everything else on TV. I am sticking with it now. i guess it is almost over.

In some ways its not different than season one at all....take the fact the killer of Casper officially gets taken out in the big shootout 2 weeks ago..but the detectives ain't buying..then they jump ahead a couple months.....very similar to midseason last year when Marty shoots the guy in the shed in the head forcing Rust to create a false shootout crime scene....but neither were buying it was the right guy....years later they are reinvestigating again....

In other words..."true" detectives.....

I haven't really been watching anymore, but I caught some of the last episode and thought "Oh, of course the woman was abused as a kid." What a lazy and terrible trope to rely on.

I wish critics held Game of Thrones to the same level of scrutiny they do other shows. Sadly, they're too easily distracted by dragons and zombies to realize it's riddled with plot inconsistencies and offensive writing. The more they deviate from the source material the worse the show gets.

I agree with almost everything that's been written in this thread so far. I'll just ad a few things.

I think there is no way season two could live up too expectations. Season one was just too good.
Colin Farrell has been great. The other actors are ok.
I thought the shootout was pretty good.
I'm going to stick with the show to the end.
Question. Is the young detective the actor who played Riggins on Friday Night Lights? (tv version)

A show that's going to be better than it's first season is Ray Donavon. Gotta love Jon Voight.

Yeah. That's the same dude who played Riggins. He's been... unimpressive.

I think Ray Donavon is hitting its pace.

Good TV, but it has been darker in a way than I thought, and you just never come away feeling good about things ...

REALLY like Ian McShane being thrown into the mix ...

Yeah. That's the same dude who played Riggins. He's been... unimpressive.

He's been the worst out of the main group of actors. I think Vaughn has been decent, but has been given particularly bad dialogue to work with.

The past couple episodes have been better, which is good because I just about quit watching this season. Pace is too slow, the main crime isn't that interesting, and the characters aren't nearly as intriguing as season 1. I do sort of like Ray Velcro though.

I can't wait for season 4 of Banshee on Cinemax. They understand the basic formula. 5 minutes of dialogue, 5 minutes of sex. 50 minutes of brutality. Nice, simple and entertaining.

Yep, banshee took true bloods soft core porn and put it w no holds barred kick arse ...

Agree that GOT needs critical review.....granted I've only read the first three books...but the show writers are soooo mangling it....taken so many liberties ,many completely unnecesary...basically its sliding downhill since the red wedding...and with no stoneheart its basically like the RW was nothing more than a senseless driveby....

There are some great websites that tear this stuff down but at this point the forgotten storylines...plot holes...mischaracterisations and other assorted nonsense have made the show..and the books...two entirely seperate things...

The best season was #1...and it was the truest to the book....

Isn't Stan the guy who got killed and left in the regtngular hole in the floor a few shows back? The guy Frank spoke to asking about the family etc...all while pressuring him?

EDIT...Stan was guy in floor..henchman killed...which caused Frank to do some gold teeth yanking....

Since someone brought up Banshee.......in a thread about True Detective.......Has anyone noticed that Kai Proctor's Neice in Banshee played a trailer trash hooker in True Detective?

And....season 4 Banshee is being filmed in Armstrong County....after being shot in North Carolina the first three seasons

Oh, yeah.

I dont know what woody got paid, but they would have gotten me for free to get to roll around w michelle monaghan, alexandra daddario and Lili Simmons.

I know a girl working on the Banshee set. You get $5000 an episode. $5000 and Lili Simmons would be a great days work.

Granted it could never live up to season one, but it is a huge disappointment. trying to hard to be clever with some clunker dialogue.
