This roster is a mess! No other way to cut it.
We have an upperclassman point guard who flat out sucks! He can't shoot, more likely to miss when he drives, makes terrible decisions and is a turnover machine!
We have one kid who can shoot, Toney. He should be a role player on a well balanced roster but he's IT for Pitt.
Our forwards don't rebound or block out on the defensive side, and for good measure they can't shoot either.
Our big guys are either young or one dimensional, not particularly strong or imposing.
We have Jeffress who may amount to something, if he sticks around.
Even with all of this bad, any team can compete by game planning around their shortcomings, making up for deficiencies with hustle and grit, and playing to their strengths, whatever those may be.
Last night, we saw absolutely NOTHING even resembling a game plan. Just pass the ball around the perimeter, remember that?, and chucking up a clunker, or driving into traffic out of desperation and often charging or losing the ball!
Very poor fundamentals on defense, giving up junior high tactic pick and rolls, losing tons of defensive rebounds, and playing like an unorganized playground team.
Our roster is NOT that good, despite the legend of Capel's recruiting acumen. Capel and his assistants seem totally lost at defining a identity for this team. They just roll out the ball and let her rip!
When the X man is the guy running this strategy, you're going to get a bad circus like we saw last night.
Imagine what this will look like against real ACC caliber teams?? This was St. Francis, a rent a victim that had NEVER beat Pitt, EVER!!! They literally dominated us from start to finish, in our own building!
Given the hype and hope, Capel is on his way to making Stallings look good, and Dixon look like.....well you know.......
