Honest Take

What will be available in the transfer portal for OL will be the same or worse than what is currently on the roster.

Holstein has played well during periods of the season. Played poorly during periods of the season. On the whole I don’t think it’s going to have some DJ Lagway type effect, where players in the portal are going to flock to play with him.

Yeah, this notion that the OL can be "fixed" via the portal is kind of insane. There just aren't enough guys available, and the quality pieces who are available are unaffordable for Pitt. OL is something even blue bloods struggle with addressing via the portal. It's also why Colorado sucked last season: no matter how appealing the Prime effect was and how much they turned the roster over, that was the one area they just couldn't fix.

Honest Take

I think we could have gone 9-2 or 10-1 if we avoided all the injuries and had better coaching. But we didn't because we have a new OC and players got hurt and we don't have the depth right now to overcome that. So its a fair point and probably more realistic to go 9-4, 8-5, or 7-6. Maybe we should look at this as a nice transition season and perhaps a spring board to bigger and better things in next few years.
This season reminds me of Wlat's first season when we went 6-5 and were off to the Liberty bowl. After the JM2 years, it was such a big thing for the program. I feel that excitement again with Bell's offense.

Honest Take

1) This portal era is much different. Teams make massive improvements, or take massive steps back, in record from season to season all the time.

2) You know what else playing worse on offense is related to? Playing better defenses. Cincy was down to playing walk-ons on the d-line early in this season. WVU held DB "tryouts" for the starting spots after our game against them.

3) Five game losing streaks are awful, and no amount of mental gymnastics should convince anyone otherwise. I'd 100% rather start 0-7 and finish 5-7 than start 7-0 and finish 7-5. The former tells me something clicked; the latter tells me you're headed in the wrong direction.

Congratulations to Coach Franklin

You’re a joke, I’m a GT graduate with a Pitt graduate daughter. Hate is one thing but lying about a team is another. Their schedule is no different than Pitt. You don’t like the B1G, doesn’t make their schedule soft. People like you make it hard to root for Pitt .

Lying about a team? WTF are you talking about. Depending on some outcomes this weekend, PSU may only have 1 win over a team with a winning record and that Illi-friggin-ois, who themselves may not own a win over a team with a winning record.

I didnt say our schedule was harder. I didn't say we'd beat the girls teams they play. But their schedule was extremely easy. B10 football is really bad. Its OSU and Oregon and the rest of the league is the ACC.

Dunn injury status?

Losing Dunn is going to hurt in the short term, but may help longer term. Delalic and Cummings weren't going to get better sitting on the bench, and Capel seemed hesitant to play either much against the better competition.

Both these guys need to play in order to get accustomed to the speed and athleticism of major college basketball. They'll need the depth as the season wears on.

FWIW, we win that game last night if Dunn doesn't get hurt. No way we give up that lead and let Tonje go off if he's on the court.

It only hurts if we stack losses. Lets estimate 6 weeks return time for Dunn and he comes back for Duke in January.

We need to beat Stanford, Cal, Sam Houston State, Eastern Kentucky. We should be 10 plus point favorites in all of those at home. We have to win these games.

We need to beat Virginia Tech who sucks.

We hope to beat at least 1 of Mississippi State and Ohio State. And Ohio State is going to play us without 2 of their rotation bigs with Stewart having I think concussion issues and Bradshaw not even practicing right now because of legal issues. Bradshaw is their starting center. So Pitt vs Ohio State is going to be another test of who's guards are better.

Congratulations to Coach Franklin

I thought it was a questionable call, as well, but I do take issue with the uncatchable part. Does a ball being "uncatchable" mean that under no circumstances can a penalty be called? Can the defensive back just hold and hold and hold, or body slam the receiver to the ground, or even pull his jersey over his helmet, and still not be called for a penalty just because the throw sailed too far out over the line?

I think this answer is yes. If its uncatchable, it cant be a penalty. I know you are being sarcastic but if the DB bodyslammed the WR, it would be a personal foul but you can't call PI on an uncatchable ball.

Giving total dispensation in that setting doesn't seem right to me. What if the QB throws it away intentionally because the receiver isn't where he's supposed to be because he's being interfered with?
I'm not a ref but I believe that would make it holding and not PI. Still automatic 1st down, but only 5 yards as opposed to 15.

With respect to what you say about an intentional throw away, remember in college, you can "interfere with" (you can't hold, but you can jam him, even jam him so hard as to knock him down) a receiver at any point on the field, you just can't do it while the ball is in the air.

Talent and coaching matter; so does $$

I, too, have a friend whose daughter is in an LSU PhD program, and they are quite satisfied with her experience. But top to bottom, I would still maintain that there is no comparison. Michigan is one of the true public Ivies.

No argument on the Kelly stuff. He was always a phony that would eventually get exposed, but then again, a lot of college football coaches are. When he is dumped in a year or two, though, he is going to have a shit-ton of money in the bank.
There is absolutely no academic competition between Michigan and LSU. It is equivalent to a 72-0 blowout. Not that it has anything to do with football.
