VB: vs #4 Louisville - 10/25/24 Match Info

My guess is that most Pitt fans watching the match couldn't help but notice that Louisville served (as Fisher described in the post-game interview) "short" much of the time. In particular, Louper. I couldn't believe that Louisville won a very high % of her serves, when they had very little pace and I don't think they typically passed the 10' line. The majority of the serves seemed to be directed at Klicka who handed them easily...so I kept going nuts as to why Pitt, on so many occasions, couldn't get an easy set and a kill by one of the pins.
I was glad to hear when Fisher referenced this in his interview --- he said they just weren't really prepared for it. Many of the sets on Louper's serves went to our MBs, but while Kelley was great all night, not so much for Jones, at least on offense. The low serves also caused Klicka (or whoever the receiver was) to get very low and inhibited their ability to maximize timing/coordination with hitters with a higher set. Also, I think the short serves to the middle of the floor gave Louisville's blockers a better sense of where the set and kill attempt would come from. I noticed that Pitt adjusted a bit at the end, by setting wide instead of to a middle.
My guess is that the number of Louisville short serves was no accident --- rather, the result of a lot of film work and a shot at a different strategy to change things up on Pitt.

VB: Interesting article for everyone but SMF and Zelda...

Dan Fisher made $521K in 2023. Not sure what his assistants made but when you factor those in plus his recruiting budget, team travel, meals, and the cost of the scholarships, there is 0 chance that whatever revenue we made from ticket sales or volleyball-only corporate sponsorships came anywhere close to expenses.
This is the way it is at most any school for Olympic sports. Do you see this as a problem that Pitt should do something about?

Is this the toughest team we'll face this year?

Nebraska is the only other team that I would see giving Pitt as tough a time. To be clear, I don't think you saw the best of Pitt against Louisville. But, good teams will do that to you.
What struck me yesterday, about Pitt's play, was the bits of frustration with Louisville's blocking ability, as well as how they reacted to Louisville's dinks

I didn't see the SMU rematch game so I'm not sure what frustrated our Panthers in that game

Our girls are still a very young team - overall - regardless of their talent. I'm hoping we will see continued progression from VVG as a senior leader to help this talented group of women attain their goal as NC's

H2P!

And you were called out as the flaming, giant moron that you are in that thread. My lord you haven't a clue how things are run at universities.

Ramicone served Pitt for 30 years, starting under Wesley Posvar, helped oversee one of the greatest financial turnarounds in the university's history in his roles...helped grow the university's net assets by $2 billion in 7 years as CFO.

And which member of the leadership team at the time I posted that in 2017 was a Pitt grad? I think it's a totally fair point to raise. You on the other hand are totally ok with more PSU alums on Pitt's own leadership than actual Pitt alumni. Strange take.
