VB: vs #4 Louisville - 10/25/24 Match Info

saw.

Kiana Dinn is finally off crutches & walking free. Fisher mentioned in his Penn State pre-game chalk talk that she wouldn't be out for the season. Doubt we'll see her this year, but putting it on the radar, in the event we do.
Is Haiti definitely out for the whole year? She appeared to be in volleyball clothes last night, as opposed to previous games where she has been in street clothes.

Is this the toughest team we'll face this year?

Not to get too far ahead of where Pitt VB is but based on the matches I have seen, certainly Louisville is the toughest team we faced. Not to take anything away from SMU, Penn State, and Stanford. But as we head toward the post-season, is there another team out there that Pitt would struggle with (if that's the right term) as much or more than they did last night?

The rematch @ Louisville at the end of the regular season has obvious implications on the NCAA Tournament seeding, notwithstanding that the NCAA FF will be held in Louisville

I realize (from watching the NCAAT the past several seasons) that even when a team gets to the FF, there is still a separation among those teams as to which one's the best

Yankees/Dodgers

I'm just happy the Dodgers won so that good but overrated catch didn't become the story of the game. Reminded me of when Derek Jeter make a good catch and then proceeded to run 40 yards and dive into the stands like Iggy Pop.

It does make me laugh when the announcers say something like "he ran full speed into the seats to make the catch!" while showing the replay that shows him slowing down as he gets to the wall to not actually slam into the wall at full speed.

Especially given the moment, I think it's fair to call that a great catch (certainly better than the Jeter one you are referring to), but it wasn't the greatest catch ever or anything like that.

OT: Bronny

Look up Giannis brother. Same thing. He's not the first and won't be the last. People just complain more because LeBron is LeBron.

Steelers had a few of these nepo scrubs recently too. The Watt that played FB springs to mind.

But, please, go on...
It's not the same thing. Giannis brother made the NBA on his own merits before Giannis was a star. He was never a GOOD player, but he earned his shot. He's stuck around longer than he should because of his brother, but he's vastly more talented than Bronny, who would be playing NEC ball if his dad wasn't LeBron.

What city has it better than Pittsburgh ?

I was at the game with my son who kicks at a D2 school last night. He said that Sauls didn’t hit a great ball on the 57 yarder, it just kinda floated. Junko hit a couple of good punts, too.

Syracuse, on the other hand……
Yeah you could tell from the replay that he didn’t hit it as clean as he usually does. Normally, he clears by 5 yards on those long ones, even at Acrisure.

ESPN Analytics Predicts

I wonder what those analytics, at the start of the season, predicted what our record would be after 7 games?
Maybe we just let the computers decide, it would save a lot of injuries, no?

VB: Interesting article for everyone but SMF and Zelda...

He genuinely thinks that Pitt athletics is a zero sum game, that if volleyball or soccer gets better it means that football or basketball has to get worse. He simply cannot conceive of a world where Pitt is good at football and basketball and good at other sports too.
@Joe the Panther Fan

I have read thousands of posts on this, the Basketball Board, and the Football Board. This one captures perfectly the description of SMF

FWIW, I had this strange belief that SMF was actually a "bot". I could not believe that any one human can be spending their entire awake time morphing from one sport to another

1983 Cotton Bowl Pitt - SMU

SMU “Pony Express” backfield: Eric Dickerson and Craig James.

Foge’s offenses consistently did less with more.
Good God....yes....I still go into a depression when I recall that game. When it was over....I remember saying to others who were watching with me....I think we just witnessed the 'beginning of the end' of Pitt's glorious run as a college football powerhouse.

Stress free Saturday - Who are we rooting for?

Not to list the whole slate but from skimming it here are some for me:

Navy over ND
Washington over Indiana
Oklahoma over Ole Miss
Wisconsin over PSU
Cincinnati over Colorado
UCF over BYU
Oregon over Illinois
LSU over Texas A&M
Texas over Vanderbilt
Kansas over Kansas St
Arizona over WVU (just bury them whatever)

I don’t expect most of these to go my way but some of them I’m slightly conflicted on. Like if Vandy actually pulls that upset they’d probably get a lot of votes over Pitt, although I guess it’d be cool to see them do it again.

Over on the Volleytalk Proboards site they were bitching about that....and most of these volleyball addicts aren't even Pitt fans.
There were several replies to the tweets from Chester and Ehman above complaining that they couldn't get the match on TV or by streaming.

Most notable were from the fans from Nebraska...they know who is in their future!
