I think the chances of 3 ACC teams getting in is very slim, even if Clemson beats South Carolina. The bigger question is whether SEC only gets 3 in, while Big 10 looks to be getting 4.

Yeah, I posted it in another thread but the ACC's only chance (in my opinion) is for all three teams to win emphatically this weekend and then SMU and Miami to play a really close game next weekend... specifically, SMU would probably have to beat Miami by a very slim margin. And even then I'd be skeptical.

And even on top of all that, something has to happen to one of the top 11 not named Boise State for Clemson to jump them. Just pretty unlikely that everything goes just right.

Kinda OT: Revenue Sharing and European soccer

I think university revenue-sharing with athletes is going to get really murky really quickly. Each state may have different legislation. And taxpayer acceptance of some portion of the cost (direct or indirect) is going to be a political hot button.

It got me to thinking about a business trip I made to Berlin about 10 years ago. Over dinner with some German colleagues, I asked their thoughts about some of the other soccer leagues around Europe - England, Spain, Italy, etc.

I was expecting the conversation to be about soccer & styles of play. But it wasn’t.

The Germans were angry that the European Union had bailed out Spain’s economy to the tune of $100 billion plus…while some of the biggest Spanish soccer clubs - were receiving government benefits like being deemed “non-profits” - while spending ridiculous amounts of money on record player signings and transfers.

So yeah…back to America in 2024, I’m curious to see the financial shell games that university administrators will need to play to make everyone happy. And it will be increasingly hard to make covert decisions because a lot of people are going to want to know exactly how every dollar is being spent.
