Talent and coaching matter; so does $$

I respectfully disagree with you on the point about sending our kids to Michigan vs LSU. My daughter graduated from LSU and is now a full professor at UGA. The environment there (Baton Rouge) was very positive

That said, we both (my daughter and I) feel that Brian Kelly was the wrong choice for HC. He certainly has the connections to recruit and the talent (NFL) that LSU has produced is unmatched; certainly no worse than Michigan. But Kelly has always seemed to find a way to lose the big games. Something that Les Miles and to some extent Ogeron did when they had the talent. LSU has 3 NC's this decade and probably should have had more with a better coach
I, too, have a friend whose daughter is in an LSU PhD program, and they are quite satisfied with her experience. But top to bottom, I would still maintain that there is no comparison. Michigan is one of the true public Ivies.

No argument on the Kelly stuff. He was always a phony that would eventually get exposed, but then again, a lot of college football coaches are. When he is dumped in a year or two, though, he is going to have a shit-ton of money in the bank.

And a good QB or WR can score you enough points to win even with a poor OL. So if you can get 1, maybe 2 or 3 good offensive players, you have a chance to scheme around that and be good enough. This isnt the case on defense.
Bro - you aren't sustaining any kind of success with a "poor" OL at any level whether this is pop warner or the NFL.

The bloody weekend that was in the ACC

It would mean everything if LSU pulls a "Northwestern" and becomes really good or at least bubblish. Huge comeback W for them but the SEC is so good that this doesn't seem likely. Have to win 1 of these next 2 or we need to go 15-5 in the ACC. Possibly 14-6 depending on who we beat.
They should remain at least a Q2 win though. UCF beat Texas A&M, LSU beat KST. This isn’t a mizz situation. BPI has Wisconsin as a 1 seed right now resume wise.

It’s easier to have a successful offense with lower ranked recruits than it is a successful defense with lower ranked .

Year to Year offensive rankings correlate less with recruiting class rankings than year to year defensive success.

There just aren’t a lot of defensive versions of Mike Leach.

Delalic

You can already tell he’s coming along a bit. Because of random in-game things that’ll happen (injuries, foul trouble, etc.), he’ll have a break out offensive game soon enough. And like you said, he kind of has to.

He just needs to get used to the intensity of a big college bball game, and buckle down a bit on the defensive end.

Dunn injury status?

Thats what has been reported. The thumb is probably looking at 4 weeks to 6 weeks. The ankle is probably also a month. I rolled my ankle really bad almost 2 months ago and couldn't walk on it. Im coming up on month 2 and I still cant run. Mine was probably at least grade 2 as I could barely and I mean barely just stand up the first few days. And Im in shape. Dunn was able to stand on both feet, so thats a positive, his is way less of a sprain than mine.

I had a bad sprain once. Whole leg was black and blue. Doc said it was worse than a break. Was on crutches for 2-3 weeks. I remember back then thinking that I would have been out about 4 weeks if I were still playing.

If we can all agree that College sports (and I'll focus on football for the sake of this board) is now "all about the Benjamins", is the NCAA at a tipping point to either

a) pay the players [as opposed to NIL deals] and maybe establish a spending "cap" so that all P4 programs can compete on a mostly level playing field?

-- or --

b) continue to allow programs to run rampant with their boosters without any control or consequences?

For those who followed the recent flip (our DB recruit and LSU's QB recruit) of highly touted players to Michigan, of course $ matters. Probably the biggest reason for Pitt.

But if a program like Michigan can outspend LSU you then got to wonder if it's the money or the coach? I'd think the Wolverines and Tigers would each have unlimited assets to make sure a 5 star prospect stays committed. Did that QB not want to play for Brian Kelly, maybe?

The QB is from Michigan.

On average, it’s always easier to convince a player to stay home than it is to convince him to go 1.2k miles away.
