    NET changing for next year???

They didn’t watch. That’s the first problem. Like any other analytics - need humans to best utilize them and deal with outliers.

    Lunardi scorecard

Not sure how you get a good “score”. In other words, how do you factor in the % of teams they got right with how they predicted the exact seed line? So if Lunardi was 166, he likely just missed more of the finer nuances. But that doesn’t mean that his loud mouth didn’t influence the committee...

    Congrats to Michigan State

I think that’s part of the scheduling magic (or luck because you cant guarantee a team will be good). So basically if your “off night” comes against a really good team, it won’t hurt you that much. If your great night comes against a great team and you beat them, it helps you A LOT more...

    Congrats to Michigan State

I can understand that in aggregate, going (say) 7-3 against 10 top 25 teams is a lot more impressive than 10-0 against below average teams. But if that slips to like 3-7, it shouldn’t be held in higher esteem because you just aren’t winning at a high enough rate to glean anything

    Congrats to Michigan State

Well most importantly, Pitt isn’t changing

    Congrats to Michigan State

This is a little skewed because it includes what they have done in the tournament, which factored in the last 10. So teams will be shifting up and down. I wish I captured the snapshot of this before the tournament started. I think your point holds - just a caveat.

    Duquesne game…any chance?

How so? No one (with any credibility) thought they were some kind some legit contender. Figured they’d get waxed there. But they deserved to be there based on the rules in place, and settled it on the floor. Then won a game. Give them credit.

    Congrats to Michigan State

It’s a fine line, no doubt. And I get the challenge of trying to compare so many teams. The other thing I get is that this tournament is to decide a champion. So a lot of this doesn’t really hurt its ability to do that. So it would extraordinary rare for all this to exclude someone that was...

Steelers Have Been Slime Ball Liars For A While

I tell ya - Steeler hater Pitt fans and Pitt hater Steeler fans are the worst. Unfortunately, the KP situation brought out both. So many half truths in that commentary, but hey keep search for confirmation bias. Just go all be Nitters or hoopies and root for the Browns too. You already know...

    Congrats to Michigan State

Tried hard and lost for the 15th time this year. We really need to figure out/dupicate their NET gaming. That’s basically a Syracuse/Wake level team with a better schedule.

    Friday NCAAT thread

They literally lost the two games before that sample, and the two post season games after that sample. Talk about selective endpoints

    NC State

Zack Austin threw dahn a windmill. And Pitt led an overmatched NC State team by 17. From that point on, they made that game somewhat respectable. From there, they won 5 ACC games, an NCAA game, and are looking good for the sweet 16. Not sure I’ve seen anything quite like it.

    Big 12 Manipulation

BYU couldn’t beat Duquesne, Texas Tech is struggling with that NC State team we handled easily 12 days ago. College basketball is a quick game. Teams can beat other teams in a short game. That’s why an Oakland can beat Kentucky. And it’s also why you should schedule tough in the OOC. Law of...

    Fede to the portal

I wish him lots of luck. Seems like a good character guy. Gave us some moments. Cool ass name too. But it also seems like a guy leaving to try to “find his level” for more enjoyable play, as opposed to a guy not happy that is trying to “upgrade”. And as a program - not a horrible thing.

    Taking OOC games more seriously

It’s very possible that it will flip to whatever doesn’t benefit us that year.

    Taking OOC games more seriously

Not sure about that. Because then total losses become a factor. You got rid of the Missouri loss, but also a win. Now you have a 12 loss team coming out of a conference not perceived to be great. You might be right as long as those aren’t blowout losses.

    Taking OOC games more seriously

Most important games for a bubble team that finishes 3rd or 4th the ACC. Obviously, we can’t crush those and then go 9-13 in conference.

    Taking OOC games more seriously

I agree that it projected to be solid. I also think that some teams went deeper into the shitter after the fact. We could however have controlled the Missouri game. But full body of work was plenty IMO. This thread was more about how I personally will put more emphasis on it and make more of...

    Taking OOC games more seriously

One other thing. Don’t get me wrong. It’s silly to think that (say) wins over Duke and Wake should “mean more” if those were the OOC games. Overall SOS should come first which takes into consideration both your OOC AND the in conference schedule differences. But that’s not the world we live in.

    Taking OOC games more seriously

I admit I’m wrong. Every year when Pitt plays an OOC game, it usually feels “smaller” to me than a conference game. Exception might be if it were WVU or a true blue blood program. But win or lose, I always say “well, everything is still in front of them in Conference play”. That clearly is...
