If not the best, it was right up there. That was one helluva team.
The way I look at it, compared to the elite eight team the following season....
Blair was a year younger (freshman in '08) but still a beast.
Sam Young averaged 18.1 PPG playing the 4 in '08, 19.2 playing the 3 in '09. Great player, played great both years at both positions.
Fields was a junior in '08 and senior in '09. Started as a sophomore so he was experienced enough. Did have the injury in '08 though and missed a lot of time.
The '08 team had a great 3 point shooter in Ramon. I'll certainly take that over jermaine Dixon in '09, although Dixon was a solid defender.
The '09 team with Young at the 3 had Biggs at the 4. Ill take a tyrell Biggs any day of the week, but Young at the 4 and a healthy cook at the 3 is still good maybe better. Cook was an efficient shooter, good defender, one of the better swing men/glue guys to come through Pitt.
Big East tourney champs, 25-9 record heading into the tourney, 10-8 in the big east, so I know a lot of people will say if not for the big east tourney crown nobody remembers this team. I think cook would've made a huge difference though.
