$10M Texas Tech Portal Class

The problem is the collective effort is not sustainable, you need the whales.

Correct - this is about as feasible as the guy who claims that if everyone in the world gave him a penny he'd be rich. Yeah, we all get the math. But it ain't happening.

Pitt has less than half the number of living alum some of the Big Ten schools do, and that difference is much more sizeable when considering the ones who actually care about football. On top of that, there is much more competition for our dollars here than there is in many of these schools in the middle of nowhere.

The best thing Pitt fans can do is incentivize those whose money actually matters. If 7,500 people give $20/month, maybe a whale will realize his efforts aren't going to be in vain. If like 700 people give $20/month (which I believe is pretty close to the current reality of A412), well, I'm sure they just assume it's not even worth throwing money at such a niche interest.

I am not sure even incentivizing them by showing you have a lot of small donors matters. IMO what you need is all the important players in the athletic department and the administration pulling in the same direction. You need a president or chancellor who empowers and supports the athletic department and coaches to go after the whales and you have to have an athletic department, AD, and HC who are willing to engage and fight. If you have a coach who doesn't seem to care about NIL or talks about doing it differently, it will be harder to bring the real money in.

The one thing the best football and basketball programs in the country have in common is alignment from the board down.

Multiple collectives have folded on account of a lack of interest, and Peak has made numerous posts that were pretty obviously the result of a nudge from A412 that basically said "If you little guys don't care then neither will us bigger guys."

Yeah, threats or veiled threats always work. Or how about shaming people? That works pretty well, too.

It’s fun to imagine what our donor base would be like today had the oil industry never moved to Texas… what could’ve been!
