Pittsburgh teammates to race in honor of James Conner
12:06 PM ET
Starting quarterback Nathan Peterman, leading rusher Qadree Ollison and 10 others signed up to participate in a charity race at their home stadium to honor and support teammate James Conner.
The 12-member #ConnerStrong team will race in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's annual “Race to Anyplace” at Heinz Field on Saturday, competing in a six-hour stationary bike race. The race is comprised of 24 15-minute heats, and players will take turns on the bike to try and rack up the most miles and most money raised. Coach Pat Narduzzi learned about the event through his daughter, Arianna, and told the team about it. Players then signed up to participate.
Matt Galambos, Jaryd Jones-Smith, George Aston, Rafael Araujo-Lopes, Pat Quirin, Tony Pilato, Kellen McAlone, Manny Stocker, Tristan Cunha and Nick Goldsmith will also be racing.
Conner is halfway done with his treatment for Hodgkin lymphoma, with six rounds of chemotherapy left. He has targeted a return to the football field in September.
