19 Pitt Football players named to the ACC All-Academic team

Maybe this is the problem

"Academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0-grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. In addition, student-athletes must have competed in at least 50 percent of their team's contests on the season." Honestly, 19 sounds about right, if not on the low side, if that is all it takes to make it.

I miss the days when we were bad ass. Players brawling with cops. Drunkenly yelling "Remember Pearl Harbor" in a Chinese restaurant. Ironhead vs. the paperboy. And on Saturdays, we were kings!
And Ironhead was suspended for an entire season. What idiot levied that penalty?

If Heyward is playing in 1985, I think the team goes 6-4-1 at worst and Foge keeps his job. Enough to alter the program to where Major Harris comes on board and Foge makes it into the 1990s. The university doesn't pound a stake through the program's heart due to a Pitt guy at the helm.

congemi had 1300 yards passing that year, in 11 games. 6 Tds to 11 interceptions..

Our Wrs that year, well we had none. The leading wr had 34 catches for 400 yards. Our second leading wr, with most receptions was a Tight end with 16 catches..

Why in the world did i ever think John Congemi was good?

I've been writing for years at how bad Congemi was. Decent freshman season then a drop off. Gottfried gave him the Run-N-Shoot offense in 1986 and he was the same: incapable of putting points on the board.

yeah, i was little when i watched him so of course i have an inflated perception of him. his stats are absolutely brutal. I've said this a few times but amazing for how great we recruited in mid / late 80s, how truly bad we were at getting Qbs and even Wrs.

6 TD passes in 11 games in 1985?? How is that even possible. a little better in 1986 but not by much

Tuten and Truitt were decent but i cant think of many good WRs we had before them. Osborne maybe but he was ok.

Chuck Scales was solid in 1985, but then had a bad senior year in 1986. Pitt definitely was not known for its receivers prior to Walt although Gottfried was starting to recruit them.

I'm trying and failing to post a picture of Congemi walking to the locker room versus NC State in 1985 with his stats showing 2 of 10 for 6 yards. And Sherrill didn't offer Kosar or Testaverde in that same class. You can't make this stuff up.
