2 Pitt Greats

I mean BOYD was on that team too, how in the hell weren't they BETTER??
If you want to do a deep dive on that team, we had starters who played multiple years in the NFL at:
  • QB (Savage)
  • RB (Conner)
  • WR (Boyd)
  • TE (Holtz)
  • OL (Clemmings)
  • DL (Donald)
  • DB (Williams)
We should’ve been much better than 7-6. Unfortunately, you can say that about many of our teams throughout our history, particularly in the 21st century.

The disaster of the wanny/haywood/graham recruiting class meant that there was virtually no depth whatsoever on that team
That resulted in one of the most random recruiting classes of the 21st century… three 4* recruits from Pittsburgh ending up in Lubbock, Texas. If that happened in NCAA 25, they would’ve patched the game!

Very inexperienced OL that was lacking talent.

Some big holes on defense in terms of depth/talent.
Very true; I think the best lineman we had that season had just converted from a TE and our future top linemen (Bisnowaty, Johnson) were only freshmen.

Biggest roadblock to success. Pitt has had many great starters, but a troubling lack of depth. Big reason why the teams in the 80's with Sherrill were successful. If players went down with injuries, they might never see the field again. I remember Willie Collier was the starting WR in 1980, went down with some type of injury in the 2nd game and replaced by Dwight Collins. That was the last you ever heard of Willie.

This was our depth chart for that team.

Boyd, Donald, and Conner weren't on his Wisconsin teams either from 2015-2017 either but he still went 34-7 during that time which goes to show that 2013 was what it was, a couple of talented kids but not much else.

Who did those Wisconsin teams beat? Chryst had a very "curated" record at Wisconsin.

C'mon, (#5) LSU sucked so bad that year, they fired their coach a few weeks later. (#7) Nebraska lol. Ok, they weren't ranked at the end is the year becausethey weren't good. . (#8) Michigan St WAS 3-9 THAT YEAR. Bowl games are exhibitions. The B1GW was awful.

Do you get it now? I'm not going to waste time "debunking" the rest of this nonsense.

Paul Chryst has won as many major bowl games as has Pitt in the last 75 seasons. But okay, whatever.

Barry had Wisconsin/Gomer win as many major bowl games as has Pitt in the last whatever seasons. Wasted hire, did Barry a solid, pitted as usual, granting residency to his fallback HC candidate...
