2003 Pitt Virginia Tech

I was remember thinking why in the hell Beamer stopped running the ball?
Polite's knee may have down short which would have forced a 4th down. Crazy.

In middle school our football team took a trip to a pitt game once a year after our season was over. In ‘03 this was the game we went to. Sat in what was back then the open end zone. Man I’m glad I joined the team that year.

I gave my seats away to my sister to bring my niece and 2 nephews because I had a F'N wedding to go to. The only silver lining for me was Pitt gained 3 fans that night. I have taken them to many games including this Saturday even though I am begging them to find a friend to take. I just don't enjoy attending games any more I would rather watch on tv, that is all sports not just Pitt games. I only like attending HS football in person anymore.

One of the greatest games I have ever attended at Heinz field. I remember Larry’s TD catch in that game like it was yesterday. I was in the North Endzone with my wife and she screams at me “Man to man coverage on Larry!” (Watching Fitz actually made my wife love football and she has been with me every home game since). Sure enough it was man coverage and the CB couldn’t get to the corner of the endzone fast enough. I mean, watch the play. They had thrown so many fades the year before the CB starts running that way before the ball is even snapped. Seeing that, Larry changes the route to a quick slant and it is a wide open TD. Amazing player, amazing game, amazing night.

On another note, while watching the video it was amazing to see the QBs that team had. Rutherford starting with Palko, Getsy, and Flacco on the bench. Unreal.

I'm still waiting for my DVD of the game from Shadyside Scott

That was a late game. When we came out of game to Gold 4 lot the places was at a standstill. So we fired back up the grille and had a midnight supper. Got out of the lot around 1:30 and pulled in driveway at 3:00 am. We owned Va Tech back in the day.

It was freezing, but we had beer and cigars and stayed out in the parking lot listening to the post game until the place cleared out, didn't care how cold it was that night.

yep, after every win. still funny to think back on that as I can't imagine Toby Keith was on the playlist of our basketball team.

ha ha that used to be a big staple at the Pete in the early years of pitt basketball resurgence

I am not sure of the date of this game, but our crew got shut down for the winter some time in the week of the game, so I told my wife that we are "going on a mini-vacation". We get a hotel room in the city, and I tell her "I'm putting $80.00 in my wallet (I can't remember the exact figure) and we are heading down to the bars around the stadium and for fun we are going to walk around and mix with Pitt tail-gators and if we can have a few and get into the stadium before the money runs out we will go to the game, if not we will walk back over and watch the game at the hotel.

So as we walk through the Gold Lot, a well dressed Pitt guy says "I have two tickets", well he wants more than double of what I have left, so I thank him and we keep walking. We walk another 45 minutes up around the stadium and nothing really develops, ( I really just stayed clear of the usual scalpers). We decide to head back to watch the game on TV and we walk through the Gold Lot, sorta retracing our steps back, and the same guy yells, "Hey are you still looking for tickets?" When we get to him he says, "Here take the damn things, our group got two more that we don't need, have a good time." So my wife and I sat in Club seats on about the 40 yard line for that game, she walked up and got warm when she needed to, and what a great game!!!
