Of the 12 players we signed to letters of intent in the recruiting class of 2010, 2011, and 2012, only 3 will finish their eligibility at Pitt. All things considered, Jamie has done a great job of at least maintaining respectability with so little production out of 3 straight classes.

2010
Cam Wright - finished eligibility at Pitt
JJ Moore - transferred after junior year, never developed into the player that Pitt hoped for
Isaiah Epps - transferred after RS FR year, an epic "misevaluation" by Pitt and everybody else as he was highly recruited

2011
Durand Johnson - played 47 games in 4 years, then transferred
Malcolm Gilbert - transferred midway through his sophomore season
John Johnson - transferred at the beginning of his sophomore season
Khem Birch - transferred at the beginning of his freshman season
Jaylen Bond - released from letter of intent during the spring signing period

2012
James Robinson - will probably finish eligibility at Pitt
Chris Jones - will probably finish eligibility at Pitt but is eligible to grad transfer next year
Steven Adams - declared for NBA Draft after ho-hum freshman year
Trey Zeigler - transferred

Here you go, 8 of 11 left Pitt! In another thread somebody asked me to give some examples to prove my allegation that so many players have left the program recently, and this is just recruits, we also had transfers, like Zeigler bail after a year. We had another guy who was 6-11, named Jennings I think, who bailed after a year, I'm not sure what year that was? And not that all these guys are great, that's not the point! The point is what is so sour about this environment that so many want to leave?

Its actually 9 out of 12 if you count Zeigler. I forgot him but fixed it. Its not that this environment is "sour." Its more that none of those 12 players were very good. None of them (except for Adams) are solid, consistent ACC-level starters. Basically, those are 11 ACC backups or mid-major players. That's the biggest problem. We've missed out on some top targets and when we got some top targets (Adams, Epps, Moore), they were big disappointments. Just a historically bad 3 year recruiting period. That would doom a lot of good coaches but Jamie is going to probably get bye with a couple NIT's which is saying a lot.

I'll give you a hint:

Those players who left- were on the bench, primarily.
Birch was flaking out before the season even started- because, well...the kid has delusions of grandeur evidenced by declaring for the NBA draft early.

JJ Moore- is about the only other exception. He was getting minutes, even if never being as productive as we hoped- since he couldn't dribble or defend.


Do you mean Malcolm Gilbert- who was a recruiting mistake to ever sign in the first place-evidence by his lack of minutes and products even at Fairfield.
