Re: Nix & Wilson.*

Hey, don't interrupt his ridiculous post with those kinds of facts.

Re: Nix & Wilson.*

I think most people on this board know who has already signed a letter of intent to attend Pitt.

My point here and in previous posts is that we should not be losing recruits to lesser basketball powers or conferences (unless there are specific reasons like legacy, local kid, something like that)

If we are going to over recruit, we should over recruit in the early signing period and not force ourselves to dumpster dive in the late signing period like we have in recent years.

Re: Nix & Wilson.*

Fair enough but how bout waiting til the class is in the barn before ripping it.

Actually, we followed about half of these guys and offered several, at least 7 I think.

The fact us we weren't going to give out truly committable offers to ANY bigs as long as we thought we had a good chance at the two 5-stars Diallo and Swanigan.

If we had signed, say, Pardon or Dime and backed away from Swanigan or Diallo, the board would have exploded. You could argue, as I have, that we should basically ignore 5-stars and sign realistic targets earlier, but we put a lot of effort and resources into Diallo and Swanigan and when most of the guys you list committed, we were still in decent shape with the 5-stars.

We were not gonna take a PF in '15. We have 4 of them now in the soph and freshman class. We have our sights set on some better guards/wings in the '16 class. Will we get them? Who knows?

Likewise, until Newkirk blew up, who thought we needed to follow guards after signing Damon Wilson?

Listing a bunch of guys who are irrelevant is, well, irrelevant

I think I agree with you Harve. Dixon used to eliminate the non realistic targets early, move on to the realistic targets and complete our class early. That seemed to work.

I doubt we have a realistic chance at Swanigan or Diallo. I would have rather gone all in on Reuter or Ahmad or one of the Georgetown recruits.

Harrell is really Louisville's big. Blair was our big. Neither had true center size, but both did the bulk of the teams interior scoring and rebounding. Those are the kind of players we need. Mike Young is not quite that kind of player.

We are not going to win many battles with the big boys or the cheaters. Herron may be an exception and he committed very early. We need to complete our signings in the early signing period (unless waiting for a grade or test score). Once it gets to the late signing period, we are out of that game. Our recent results with late signers and 5th year transfers are the proof of that..

As far as guards, I think it was clear before this season even started, that we needed a guard that could penetrate and beat his man off the dribble. That we needed a guard that could be a defensive stopper when it came to the opponents dribble drive. It was also clear that Newkirk was not that guard.

Reading some of your recent posts, it sounds like you may be cooling on D.Wilson. Earlier in the year you were sounding like you expected Wilson to surpass Newkirk in the pecking order. You are now sounding like you are having second thoughts in that regard. What are your expectations for Wilson?

We need to pursue realistic targets unless with have a specific in with an elite prospect, but we need to dominate in that pursuit when the competition is the Atlantic 10, American, Big East or mid to lower level ACC programs. We have not been doing that. I really think a Philly recruiter would help.

I am always thankful for your insights
