@MattSteinbrink: Jamie Dixon flew to California and offered 2016 JUCO guard Chrisshawn Clark last night. Clark is originally from Ohio.

6'4" guard, was freshman JUCO a player of the year in California, averaged just over 15 ppg.

Hard to do a search on this one... not able to find any stats so far..

This one quote:

So far, 6-foot-4 freshman guard Crisshawn Clark out of Ohio has been everything advertised, delivering 24 points and six rebounds against American River.

He's a stud in the making," Reynoso said. "I mean, he's a star right now. He just can only get better, and that's a crazy thing to say with him."

Come 2016 we will have the starting SG position open having been vacated by Sterling Smith (I would guess).

Shows current players, and recruits that have been offered.

Down below it lists Clark as just a 2*. But, he must have been showing something recently as now the offers are starting to come in.

Shows we have given out 16 offers and have just two commits... both near the bottom of the list. Yeah, beaten out for higher ranked recruits by the likes of The Hall, UMass and FSU... and then there are the big boys getting the really highly ranked recruits. Things really black as night right now with our recruiting.

Yeah, maybe JD should keep bringing in those grad transfers and JUCOs until the sun comes up... if it ever does.

In no way is this defense of the program's recruiting right now (because is almost completely indefensible), but ESPN is a horrible recruiting site.
They basically just do enough to have something there.
That list does not include guys they were seriously pursuing like Stephens and Moore and Marfo.

I categorize teams as such:

Blue Bloods: UK, KU, Duke, UNC
Almost Blue Bloods: MSU, Syr, Lou, OSU, Ind, Az, etc
Solid programs: Pitt, Nova, Gtown, UVa, Md, NCSU, Purdue, and a lot of others
Lesser programs: SHU, PSU, Prov, SJU, VT, Auburn

Generally, we have a hard time beating out "like schools," schools on our same level for players. Lately, when we've gotten a recruit, its because we are the best program to offer.

We have no shot to beat out better programs for players even though lesser programs routinely beat us for players.

In a nutshell, Pitt's recruiting has fallen to near program - lows. Even Evans and Willard landed good classes but they couldnt coach.
i know Evans and I think Willard had an organization called the GOLDEN PANTHERS assisting in recuriting . Don't forget this it helped in landing the type of players that don't give Pitt a second thought now.

Look at that list and most went to higher profile programs and of the three you mention two kids stayed close to home and the third one I'd rather play in Fl than Pgh if it was my choose too. Pitt needs to find the overlooked kid whose a inch smaller ,too skinny, a half step slow than the elite kids who are not getting much love and develop them over 5 yrs. want a perfect example Gary McGee who couldn't tie his shoes in the beginning and turned out to be their best center other than Blair in years.

Seriously, how accurate are these recruiting sites when differentiating between the 68th and 181st best high school players in the country?

Or even what schools have an actionable offer on what kids. A number of years ago several recruiting outlets had Lance Stevenson with a Pitt offer, when in fact Dixon had been recruiting a teammate of his. Even Lance said Pitt was recruiting him because he saw Dixon there, but I don't think they ever were.

People treat these lists as the be all end all in recruiting, but they aren't. You have to verify with multiple sources, and frankly, check Matt's posts or Twitter. It's the best we got, but there is no up to the minute official site that has recruiting info.

I admit that the ESPN recruiting page does not have all their ducks in line but... it gives a good snapshot of how bad things are right now with recruiting.... with the 16 offers and the only two accepted were two of the bottom three.

So their recruiting site is subpar, and yet remains an indictment on a teams recruiting because of their subpar rankings and listings? Got it. There are 5 or 6 guys listed I have never seen mentioned on this site or on Matt's Twitter. Doesn't mean we didn't offer, but being on the list doesn't absolutely mean we actively pursued them. I also see missing players who we did pursue, so how can you draw any conclusions on 2016 recruiting at all on such a flawed list? Mind you, I may even agree that recruiting has been subpar, but certainly not because of ESPN's list.

Yeah, just saying about them specifically.

But, its fair to say that unless JD pulls a real rabbit out of the hat, this go around has been full of disappointments.

You yourself said ESPN was bad, then went on to base your conclusions on Pitt recruiting based on it. I think you are confused about who the clueless one is. I stated nothing but facts, yours is based on confusion and name calling. Great indeed.

Not to mention your post was pretty benign.

Until Dixon finds a new recruiting ground, look for him to utilize bringing in top JUCO players. Maybe he's not a great recruiter, but ask anyone in the college hoops world, he is the most dedicated recruiter you will find.
