Pretty depressing when Corhen is their best shooter. Although, with him hitting at 65% from inside the arc over the last 10, maybe they should have run more offense through him last year. Him and Dunning will need to combine for at least 50 a game if Pitt will have any shot with this bunch of misfit toys.

Updated.

12 on scholarship. Roster limit is 15 including walk-ons so if Nelson and Mayhew remain with the team, we can add 1 more player.

This team is unlikely to go 0'fer like the Stallings squad, but they wouldn't be favored by double digits.

This is a decent acc preview other than mentioning Corhen is a good offensive rebounder. Could be really ugly as of now.

To their credit, they didn't say Corhen is a good offensive rebounder, they said, "Jackson, Corhen and Kante should help Pitt elevate from one of the worst offensive-rebounding teams in the ACC to one of the best."

On the other hand, they seem to be ignoring that the reason we were one of the worst offensive rebounding teams in the ACC is that we got very few offensive rebounds from 2/3 of those players last year. They assume Jackson will be the starting 5 backed up by Kante and Corhen will be the starting 4 (also backed up by Kante?), which in theory would give us the size to rebound well. I personally don't think Jackson will be able to make up for the obvious deficiencies we saw last year from the remaining 2, but we'll see.

I believe he was saying our conference record would be around 6-12, which I think is a reasonable guess. The talent isn't there, and we know the team isn't going to overachieve.

Yeah, I don't think it's possible for a Capel team to overachieve. 6-12 as a conference record makes more sense, although I may need some clarification, as SMF is one who does subscribe to this magical idea of team gelling to a point where it wins like 3x as many games as its talent (again, that will never happen with Capel).

As it stands, this roster looks like Capel's attempt to start the negotiations. The backcourt will be on the shortlist to be the worst in the ACC, and I can't believe he's rolling with Corhen at the 4 after stating how out of position he was there when we picked him up.

6-12 would be my prediction at this point but every team is a new team and look at the WVU trash that should have made the NCAAT last year. You never know. Maybe this team defends and rebounds and Cummings becomes a 17 PPG guy.

You heard the record skip again?
For this discussion, it looks like I'm to assume WVU made the tournament. But I believe for the Fede discussion, I'm to assume Pitt made the tournament. And part of the reason for the latter requiring such as assumption was that being the strongest bubble of all time, unlike 2024-25 - the one where WVU wasn't able to make the tournament - which had one of the weakest bubbles of all time... but I think we're supposed to ignore that part when assuming WVU *did* make the tournament.

WVU absolutely deserved a bid. And they would have had the lowest talent level to ever get an at-large. It can be done if you defend and rebound. See Jamie teams.

Nelly is the X factor. If he takes a big leap forward he could single-handily make the difference between a losing record and NIT-level. I don’t see NCAA level, but then again, who thought the 2022-23 team was any good at this point of the offseason.

Right. You just dont know. The team looks bad but let's say Cummings becomes an All-ACC player and that Jackson/Corhen are a really good 4/5 combo. Or we get something out of Minor, Indrusaitis, Dunning, etc, the team could be good. Every team is new so you dont know how things will turn out.

You hear this a lot from Pirate fans.

It's a really good strategy for people who want to proclaim that they got it right.

"See, I told you Pitt could be pretty good."

"See, I told you Pitt was going to be pretty bad."

Yea. Pitt will most likely finish towards the bottom of the ACC. However, college basketball is so different now that you are going to have 3, 4, 5 teams picked where Pitt will be picked across the P5 who will make the NCAA Tournament. So while, its unlikely that this will be Pitt, they have a better chance now than if this was 2018.
