3-Stars with Potential to Outperform Rankings

I wouldn't be surprised to see Mathis, Pinnock, Butler, and Smith outperform their 3-star rankings. There are a few others along the OL and DL that may as well, but will need a year or two to develop.

Smith isnt only going to outperform his 3 star ranking....he is going to pass a lot of five-stars (by recruiting services) as his career goes on.

uhhhh....

dont they all have a chance to outperform their rankings???

uhhhhh...sure. However, some players simply were graded out as a 3-star since they were relatively unknown during the various evaluation periods. The point of the article and thread is that some of the players who may have not been evaluated willl prove to be much better than their ranking coming out of high school.

Other examples of former and current PITT players where that has been the case in the recent past are:
James Conner
Qadree Ollison
Brian O'Neill (even though he switched positions)
Scott Orndoff
Quadree Henderson

Of course, the flip side is that some players may not even live up to their average star ranking.

Smith reminds me of all of the big, athletic receivers Louisville marches out on the field. Smith seems to have great speed, body control, and the ability to block well downfield. At 6'2" and 205 lbs, he's already a good size receiver at the college level.

I would also add Mike Caprara. He was a two star player across the board, but played above that ranking.

And how are any of you even able to speculate on stuff like this. Do you actually watch all these kids high school games?

The more interesting thing in that link is Penn State being #1 in the 2018 recruiting rankings! Why can't we get up there, DO ANYTHING THEY ARE WILLING TO DO, pay the players, find hookers for their visits, do their homework for them! Jeez, it sucks never being good. Bring back the Golden Panthers and make it 1981 again IN EVERY WAY.

They have fans that are willing to go to games and fill the stadiums and not stay home watching little muffy chase the soccer ball. In case you haven't noticed, filled stadiums go a long way to attracting recruits.

They also have a much larger alumni base. Their current enrollment is over 2.5 times the size of PITT's enrollment.
