4-0 in ACC

Damn this is fun. This team has well defined roles and each guy understands them. Can we put the daggers back in there sheaths where Capel is concerned. He got these guys here and they are playing together. It is amazing how a coach can look when he has a complete team. Capel and this team are absolutely for real!

Capel deserves some credit.
4 wins against good teams.

4 really nice wins. I'm not sold on the quality of opponents. UVA is WAY overrated at 11. Wahoos are the exact same team they were last year. Vander Plas and McKneely were brought in to knock down 3s, but they hadn't really panned out.

Experience played in UVA's favor in November. Lately, the lack of talent and ugly flaws have been rearing their ugly head and the Wahoos have been exposed.

The moving screen call on the gate screen they called with 2 mins ish left where Mcneely most likely cans the 3 was the turning point. Thought it was iffy (he was moving, but they rarely call those). Nice to get one our way.

We have become a mighty dangerous team. We have shooters, yes. We also have guys who can take you off the dribble. Nike looks all the way back now, and he, Burton, and Nelly can all break you down. If we can defend like we did in the 2nd half, this team is big trouble for the rest of the ACC.

May have been a makeup call for not calling the charge when the guy sent Burton flying and McNeely hit the game tying three.

Agree. (although I root for the Wahoos in hoops. I live in VA and my son is a huge fan, so I feel obligated to roll with it. I'm not hard core like I am with Pitt football)

Pitt was able to beat UVA off the dribble almost the entire 2nd half too. And Vander Plas can't play the 5. Atrocious. He was a huge liability Pitt did a nice job exploiting.

He has a more complete team, but he’s also doing it without Dior, Jeffress, and Hugely

Tough to even say he has a complete team. It’s basically a 7 man rotation and 9 scholarship players

Missing Hugley, Dior, Jeffress. Twins not quite there yet and Santos has been odd man out. I think he played one possession tonight, gave up an offensive rebound and an and 1 and got yanked..

The cupboard is far from full. Great job but very concerned about tired legs setting in come February again.

Man, you will do anything you can to downplay Pitt won't you.

Wow that was fun. Impressive that Pitt was able to post the W after a pretty bad first half. It wasn't always pretty but that may have been the poster child for a gutsy performance.

They owed us one. He was definitely moving and he used his arms to shield them he defender.

At the end of the day I care more about post-season than ranking (though do want both). There are many 0-2 loss teams remaining and had Pitt taken care of VCU and Vandy no doubt they would be top 20. However, they now have 4 quad 1 wins, which is 7th in nation of all teams…

Not at all. I'm just stating the obvious - that UVA simply isn't that good. UVA needed a lucky bounce to beat Pitt last year, and this pretty much the exact same UVA team. It's literally the EXACT SAME starting 5 that Bennett rolled out in last year's Pitt game, and same as the one that lost to St. Bonaventure in the NIT Quarterfinals. The only real differences are that Vander Plas comes off the bench instead of Stattmann (probably a slight upgrade) and Shedrick gets the majority of the minutes at C, as Caffaro has been relegated to spot duty.

It's unrealistic to expect a lot of improvement in a team that is made of mostly 4th, 5th, and 6th year players. Everybody knows who these guys are and what they contribute at this point. It is what it is.

UVA is always tough to beat because of their style and their execution. This team will continue to improve as they get to know one another better.

That's a big reason why they are winning. Pitt would have lost to both UNC & UVA had Hugely played any significant time. They would also have an 11 game winning streak right now had the sat him vs Vanderbilt.

Sure, but my point was more that they would be even better if those 3 guys were playing and playing how we thought they could, assuming team chemistry stayed the same.

But no doubt - seems there is a reason beyond just physical that he’s been sitting, and it has been a net positive with how poorly he was playing

Yeah the legs thing may also come into play in the conference tournament. Makes it imperative this team stacks as many wins keeping them out of the early tournament games. Let’s not forget Burton’s chronic issues either.
