1) Pitt was coming off a disastrous 1972 season, finishing 1-10. Coach Carl DePasqua was subsequently fired.
2) Geogia, under Coach Vince Dooley, was a traditional college football powerhouse in the South.
3) Pitt was a prohibitive underdog in this opening game of the 1973 season. This would be Tony Dorsett's first game as a Pitt Panther.
You would have thought Pitt won the Super Bowl by the reaction on campus after a shocking 7-7 tie with Georgia! The reason...there was finally HOPE! And this hope was later justified when the Panthers became college football's National Championship Team in 1976!
