5 star Max Browne highlight videos

Very impressive, the game just got a lot more interesting. I am expecting another 3 point game either way...

He has a cannon for an arm and moves pretty well. The type of QB who can stretch the field and could turn Weah into a 1,000 yard receiver.

Yes, his arm is an absolute cannon and very accurate. But he's more of a pro-style pocket passer with limited mobility. That's one of the reasons he was replaced at USC by Darnold who was more mobile and athletic overall. But no worries. With the great offensive line we had this year -- and hopefully next year -- he can do lots of damage with his arm. Our solid stable of running backs will make his passing even more effective. And since I'm assuming it's his job to lose, Browne will be very motivated to showcase his talent to get to the next level -- the NFL.

I'm looking at TMac as a change of pace red zone option if he doesn't win the job. His redshirt is completed.

Savage and Peterman worked out very well. Browne could be next in line.

True. He could be. Though Peterman did have an additional year with a really good OC to help him take his game to another level. Browne will have one year of eligibility. While he certainly deserves a shot to show in camp that he is the best option next season, I would hope he isn't just given the nod over MacVittie because he's a 5 star recruit using his last year of eligibility. MacVittie has a canon as an arm and is very mobile. I for one am itching to see what he can do when his # is called.

The consensus when Peterman came to PITT was that he was given the job by Chaney because of his ties to Tennessee, and because Chaney was the one who brought him in. Since Browne has pledged his commitment to PITT without an OC in place, I really feel like TMAC will be given more than a fair shot to win the starting QB position. The OC, whomever that may be, has enormous shoes to fill following a record-setting offensive year at PITT. He is not going to promote a QB to the starting position unless that players earns the right.

One would think.

It certainly helps the QB situation to have Browne in the mix. Maybe even they both get some playing time.

What the hell are some of you guys talking about? Barring injury, Browne is going to be the starter – there's just no doubt about that.

They brought him in here specifically to start. He did not transfer here to compete for a job with a redshirt freshman. He transferred here precisely because he was told he would be the starter.

This isn't an open competition and frankly, nor should it be. From what I've heard, the staff is very excited about Thomas MacVittie. However, he remains very raw.

Remember, he only started in his senior season of high school and he missed part of it due to injury. In other words, this is not your typical redshirt freshman quarterback.

Losing Canada probably affects him more than any other player on the team.

There is a reason why Pitt was all in for a fifth year graduate transfer quarterback. We were very thin there and have been for a long, long time. The last time Pitt had real depth at the quarterback position was when Walt Harris was still the coach here.

I would like to see MacVittie used sparingly but in every game. I'm talking in series or two each game. If we are involved in a game that is no longer competitive, then I would like to see him get more reps. However, I don't want to take the fifth year senior quarterback off the field in the red zone. That doesn't make any sense. That's where you most need your players who are best at quick decision-making.

There is a reason Browne wanted to transfer-He lost his starting job. So you are suggesting Pitt coaches should just give the starting job to a back up QB because he is from USC and was once a 5 star recruit- I think not.

What that resume does earn him is a legitamate shot to prove he can play much better in a Pitt uniform and win the starting job.

Now it may turn out that he looks like an All-American in camp. We'd all be happy to see that happen. Suggesting he should be given the starting job even before the coaches (and new OC) get to see him running plays, though, would make no sense. You go with who looks the best- period. Maybe it's Browne and maybe it's MacVittie. Maybe there is not much separation and we will see a little bit of both.

You say "There is no doubt about it" (that Browne is going to be the starter). I say, "Maybe." We shall see.

The various opinions that are opposite each other concerning Browne starting next year both make sense. MacVittie has to beat out the others if he becomes the starter.
I think we all can agree that depth was a BIG problem. No way DeNucci or the incoming
freshman would start. We needed someone who could also see the field and be a
viable backup. If we didn't land a transfer, I believe Narducci would at least havebrought in a
JUCO.
I'm sure the coaches showed Browne our history with our past two QB transfers...Savage and Peterman. That alone proves that Pitt at least gives a
transfer the opportunity to start, and if they earn it...they WILL start. IMO the
coaches made no promises about starting, but gave an honest assessment of our
QB situation. No transfer expects the new coaching staff to PROMISE a starting
position. Coaches love competition and Narduzzi has shown in his two seasons here
that if you earn it, you will start. They won't publically say it of course, but I'm fairly
certain that they'd like t to see a QB transfer with experience start over an inexperienced one, but they're still going to make him earn it before announcing it.

Notice how well Browne works thru his progressions... Something we used to complain about with our QB's... Doesnt seem to lock onto one target, and looks to the next receiver... He does seem to throw with little effort, even with the downfield throws, which shows his arm strength....
Hey.. We know we have QB depth problems... We know TMac needs weened into experience. Picking up Browne is good all-around....

H2P

I am not suggesting Browne be given anything.

I am saying that a fifth year senior quarterback with talent is almost certainly going to be far, far ahead of a redshirt freshman quarterback who started seven high school football games.

He did not come here to sit in the Pitt coaches are not bringing him in strictly as a mentor.

This isn't even going to be close.

Yeah, I guess you could say that Browne is competing with MacVittie, Pickett and DiNucci for that starting position. If that's what people want to hear then fine.

... maybe a new trend in recruiting
... hire a new assistant who's job is to scan the rosters of 200 or so college teams each year for experienced players who are graduating and have one more year of eligibility remaining and not just concentrate on QBs...
...as long as it doesn't impact players already on the roster who have earned a starting role..

That is a good idea. I'm sure that's exactly what Alabama is doing with the 35 or so coaches they have on salary who don't work with players.

Those guys are breaking down film and I'm sure scanning the rosters of guys they can steal.

The number of advantages schools like that have are innumerable. It's almost amazing that they ever lose a game.

With the wheels that MacV has, it would be nice to see a package of plays where he has a run/throw option. Would be a nice change of pace and give opponents something else to worry about.

Especially near the goal line, it's nice to have the extra blocker you have when the QB runs the ball... I remember how Pitt scored TDs at a high rate near the goal line when T. Palio was at QB. He'd either run it in or have an easy lob to a TE...

Go Pitt.
