7'6" High School FRESHMAN! Looks coordinated too

16 Year Old - freshman.
There’s no reason to use the Ron Rowan methodology to parenting when your kid is this developed. They should have advanced him a couple grades not held him back.

His maturation should not be dictated by his athletic ability. It should be dictated by his actual age. He is a kid. Not a freak.

My youngest is 16 going into her senior year. She will turn 18 as a freshman in college. She’s 5 feet 8 inches tall and nearly 140. She doesn’t look 16, she is fit and already looking like a college athlete. That kid is huge and looks very fit and already showing strength. If he builds some more muscle he will be a beast. He is probably on everyone’s radar and will be a highly recruited kid. Unless he grows more inches and struggles to use that body. Wonder what his growth was like to get it his current size.

My daughter was born August 17, the cut off was September 1, so she was among the very youngest in her graduation class. I think it would have been better (in a normal world) for her to have been in high school the next year as well. On the other hand, I guess it was for the best, because the next year was the COVID year, so she would have missed the prom, graduation, and everything that goes with the end of high school.

I was a senior at 16, and only graduated a couple months after turning 17. I was definitely not mature as compared to my peers, and it showed early on.
Same with me. The cut off then was Feb 1 and I was born Jan 23. I was only 16 and 4 months when I graduated and that definitely put me behind to 8 ball to an extent.

Regardless of actual age, I would be concerned about Marfan Syndrome. It has claimed many a freakishly tall youngster.

For whatever reason, the whole sport has changed, used to be a lot of effective 7 footers play, now it seems the whole big man thing is out of favor, used to be you'd have a 7 footer or 6-11 guy with skills like Hugely on most teams, now a big guy posting up back to the basket and in the paint calling for the ball is never a primary option. Hugely is like a unicorn/dinosaur.

When you have a talented physical specimen in the middle I don’t know any smart coach who wouldn’t love to have that problem.

I was a Jr. at 16. I’m sure this kid could handle being a Jr. or Sr. in HS. There’s no valid reason to be graduating HS at the age of 20.
ya, its getting later and later for some reason...used to be you gradated high school at 17 or 18 and legally drinking the second term of your college junior year... I turned 18 in February and was one of the oldest in my class as I think the kids born in January were a grade ahead of me..

There was a guy in my graduating class (1974) who was 21. We used to call him "Blanda" (as in George, who was synonymous with age in that timeframe).

i know a ton of kids were held back a year due to covid-home schooling so i think in a few years when these kids hit high school, we'll see a lot of 19 and 20 year old high school seniors. Im curious how this will effect athletic eligibility. I think the wpial cuts you off if you are 18 before a certain date but i dont know if that's changed..

I know they're not going by the rule they used when I was in high school, which was you could play at 19 so long as that birthday occurred after September 1.

yeah, i think when i was in high school (early 90's) you couldnt be 18 before June 1st of your senior year. again, that was a lifetime ago..

I believe the current PIAA rule is that you can't turn 19 before June 30 heading into what would be your senior year.

So someone who turns 19 on June 30 cannot play the following season, but someone who turns 19 on July 1 could.

I remember in the 70s, Aliquippa had a few 20+ year olds on their football team and had to forfeit a whole season, anyone remember that?
