8 Pitt players transferring

Yet he's been above .500 at a P6 more recently than Jamie

I'd take 21-11 and a tournament game against Syracuse thank you very much. Could be their first tournament win in decades, since Dixon was playing for them in 1987 I believe.

The clowns that thought Dixon's .500 in the ACC season was unacceptable but that Stallings .000 season deserves another year are really incredible to me.

He won a SEC TOURNEY in 2012, the year UK won the NCAAT.

He just basically got fired from two jobs in a row. I defended giving Stallings a chance when we hired him because I remember Festus Ezeli and a sweet 16 run. But he's probably just coached his last college basketball game at any notable level. He's done.

Jeff Goodman just tweeted that 8 players will receive their releases to transfer today.

We only have 10 players returning so I'd guess everyone but Chukwuka and either Peace or George.

Guys, this is the Death Penalty. Pitt has self-sanctioned itself worse than the NCAA has sanctioned anyone since SMU football. If we have 2 players on April 1, I don't think anyone realizes what that means. That would scare the sh!t out of many coaches, even mid-majors. At this point, I'd doubt even a guy like Pitino, who is desperate for a job, any job would take it.

This is ridiculous. Heather has to make a big move. If she hires John Becker with only Peace and Chukwuka on the roster, 0-19 is assured next year (well thats assured for everyone) and probably 0-19 the next year. Probably would be looking at a 60 game ACC losing streak with just a few dozen fans at the games. This might be the end of Pitt basketball.

She has to hire Miller or Pitino or give Hurley an insane amount of money ($4 million?). If she doesn't, Pitt basketball is dead.
It's worth another potential 0-19 year to get rid of Stallings. Pitt BB is already dead and Stallings killed it. Dirt hires like Miller and Pitino are not the answer unless you want to be considered a renegade dirty program always on the NCAA hit list. I'm still not sold on Miller as a coach who can win without Book Richardson and bribes. Winning a few more BB games with Pitino is not worth getting into his slimey gutter. Hurley, Oats, Willard, Musselman, Willard and many others won't bring a stink to Pitt BB. If Heather follows your advice, she's an idiot, inviting sanctions to Pitt, and bringing dirt to Pitt's name. Man, even for a sports board junkie, you have to have higher priorities than pimping for Pitino and Miller.

It's been reported that he's retiring. Don't know if it will stick or not, but my guess is, if he returns to coaching in the future, it would be in mid-major ranks, not at a P5. Provided he gets most of his buyout, my guess is we've seen the last of him on a college basketball sideline.

So, let's say Dixon's downturn was when we entered the ACC. That was the 13-14 season. Both coaches took over new P6 jobs at the same time in that period.

Dixon's conference record: 43-47
Stallings' conference record: 31-59

Dixon's postseasons: 3 NCAAT appearances and 2 wins (if they don't win any this year); 1 NIT Championship and 1 other NIT appearance
Stallings' postseasons: 1 NCAAT First Four appearance and 0 wins; 1 NIT appearance and 2 wins

Very, very hard to figure out who is the better coach.

I'm not arguing Stallings is a better coach.
What are you arguing then? You've argued he did well at Vandy. He didn't. Vandy was going to fire him. You've argued his recruiting was in line with building a roster. He had likely the worst recruiting in the ACC, while he was at Pitt and it was getting worse. You've argued he was handed a bad roster/situation at Pitt. He inherited an NCAAT team returning 6 of their top 7 scorers and he rode them to the basement of the ACC at 4-14 and under .500. He gutted the roster, even including the players he signed (which was before he recruited half of the 2017 class, including Parker Stewart, so you can't use "time" as an excuse) for 2016. He went 0-19 in the ACC. He lost games by an average of 19 points. He did absolutely, positively nothing well at Pitt.

I'm not saying Stallings is a better coach.

2011-12 was the start of the downturn, btw. He had one really good regular season after that and fans sort of erased it from memory due to a first round loss to SU in the Big East Tourney and the blowout loss to the Shockers in the NCAAT.

OK, so 8 players are considering transferring to the point where they can now be recruited by other teams. Maybe not all will leave but I'd guess the percentage of players who return to a school that they requested a release from is pretty low.
I wonder what level of school they end up at. ACC is probably higher than many will end up. For that alone it may be worth staying, unless they feel that wasn't a good fit for them because of lack of talent.

Carr, Stewart: P6 for sure
Stevenson, Brown: probably P6, maybe next step down like A10, American

Davis: A10, American, or mid-major

He said 12 would transfer and they were getting lawyers.
The point is he scooped a team meeting in which the whole team basically wants out before any word of that ever hit the press, and some of you guys are callling him on a technicality.

Ok, let's start from there.

That was the 11-12 season. Both coaches took over new P6 jobs at the same time in that period.

Dixon's conference record: 60-66; 0 seasons under .500 overall
Stallings' conference record: 49-75; 4 seasons under .500 overall

Dixon's postseasons: 4 NCAAT appearances and 3 wins (if they don't win any this year); 1 NIT Championship and 1 other NIT appearance; And, of course, the CBI CHAMPIONSHIP (hah)
Stallings' postseasons: 1 NCAAT appearance and 1 NCAAT First Four appearance and 1 win; 1 NIT appearance and 2 wins

So what are you saying? Those results were very good at Vandy? That after Stallings had 12 years to build his program, those last 5 years at Vandy showed what he was going to be able to build at Pitt, if they just would have given him more time?

Dan Cage's wife wrote a "letter to the editor", complaining about Pitt and Pitt fans after a run in which her husband helped destroy our program and was given an opportunity way above his head...

This is an accurate statement and I am shocked no one has brought this up over the year. Dan Cage was not qualified to be an assistant coach at a P5 program. His only redeeming value was playing for Stallings. Look at his coaching experience. He has NONE. And for her to write that cryptic letter and those idiots accepting it puts them in a bad light considering they run their site for Pitt fans... they just alienated what little fans they have left.

Almost all of the players will stay.... and the ones that don't, it will be because HCJC doesn't want them.

This level of panic was called out in real-time by many of us... but I wanted to point it out again. The right hire makes all the difference.
