* Nards had the best game of his career as a coach, IMO. He looked GREAT on the sideline. Not spazzy, didn't see the deer in headlights look (Wanny had it often, Nards every now and again). Wasn't scribbling in his notepad all game. He looked good, fit in a outfit that fit him right. But, more importantly, he had a very calm, cool confidence. Just looked like he knew they were going to win. His had a great presence. Heck, the interview CP posted after the game, he actually sounded half coherent.
The announces said it, but he showed confidence in the team all night long. I mean, matter of fact going for it on fourth down at his own 10? Seriously? Ran Kessman out for the 53 yarder in tough weather conditions after the botched PAT.
* The team - went on the road against the #25 team in the country in crappy weather and both the offense and defense broke Virginia's will. The game was VERY much in question when the offense started that drive in the middle of the third quarter, and by the time they ground the ball in for a TD, they had taken control of the game.
Cannot give the entire team, every player and coach, enough credit, after such a horrid start to the season, to come together as they have. And, guys like Ollison and Hall who have been such incredible team guys, who have stuck with it like they have with so many ups and downs in their careers.
* Dwayne Hendrix - HOW DO YOU LIKE ME NOW!
* Kessman - BOOM!
* Pickett - Yeah, the passing game is subpar, but he gets an A as a game manager/A+ for toughness last night. He took one or two sacks, but by and large avoided them, make a lot of calls as the LOS into better plays, no turnovers, didn't have a lot of rushing yards, but had two REALLY tough runs to squeek out first downs, and he only got that horse collar call after an incredible wheel around to avoid a sack. Two, three fourth down plays - the team clearly had scouted VA and knew they were going to go for it on fourth and a yard or two using Pickett. That isn't something they just decided at the time, they knew they were going to do it.
* Aston - GET SOME!
* Jackson - not sure if pulled of that receiver to jump the short route in pure man to give up the long td pass, but he increasingly reaching that point where his athleticism is meeting with experience, and had a VERY underlooked huge play tearing the ball from the VA receiver after he had made a first down when they went for it on fourth in the Pitt end of the field.
* Hall - now has to have over a half dozen of those 70 yardish runs where he pops through the LOS between the tackles, has nothing but grass in front of him and houses it. But, beyond that, again, as the good soldier, dutifully waits for his opportunity, and makes the most of it.
