I'll preface this by saying that back in the day I was commonly referred to as a negative poster. Hopefully that helps to put into context what I think I saw Saturday night.

That was the first time in a long time that I saw a team that played their butts off. I hate that we lost a heartbreaker, but at the end of the day I'm thrilled for this team. They left it all on the field.

The defense was aggressive and there were some tiny things to clean up, but overall wow. They flew to the ball, they attacked the qb, and they hit hard. I give the defense an A. They let up 27 points, but keep in mind how long they were on the field. I can't imagine how Iowa's qb felt the next morning.

Our offense looked great and then terrible. I am not thrilled with Chaney so far. He loves to run outside, and the majority of our runs for yardage have come up the middle. His 3rd down to Chris James outside was a terrible call. I understand that Iowa has a good front 4, but we were getting 3-4 yards on our inside runs. I'm hoping that Chaney just needs some more time to get this offense going. If we got them going we could win this game by 20 points.

I really thought Pitt was the better team. Our qb play was what made the difference. If peterman and voytik have a good first half we would have had a nice lead at halftime. Iowa had good qb play, and that made the difference.

I am excited, because Pitt will only get better as the season plays out. Our defense is going to struggle a little more against spread teams, but at the end of the day we are seeing quick improvements, and it may take a few years to get the offense where narduzzi wants it, but he doesn't piss around. I think it will happen.

Last point. Coaching can make a difference right away. Our dc last year was below average. All of the Pitt fans on here talked about us not having any talent. Hopefully we can all see how much of a difference good coaching can make. On the flip side our offense struggled. (Tough to know exactly how far they have fallen given injuries) We lost some really good offensive coaches. Coaching does make a much bigger difference than a lot of give it time Pitt fans know.

I'm excited for this team. I'm proud of how they played. I love that going into the 4th quarter Pitt was jumping all around and Iowa was standing on the sideline watching. We lost, but the guys gave it a lot of heart. We didn't see some stupid meltdown like we used to have.
