The Department of Veterans Affairs is planning a reorganization that includes cutting over 80,000 jobs from the sprawling agency that provides health care for retired military members, according to an internal memo obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press.

The VA’s chief of staff, Christopher Syrek, told top-level officials at the agency Tuesday that it had an objective to cut enough employees to return to 2019 staffing levels of just under 400,000. That would require terminating tens of thousands of employees after the VA expanded during the Biden administration, as well as to cover veterans impacted by burn pits under the 2022 PACT Act.

Just put all Americans under one health coverage plan that uses privatized providers. Problem solved.

What has changed since 2019 to create a need for 80k employees? Is there any way you can justify that increase or are you just so anti-Trump that you will disagree with every action?

That second question was rhetorical. We already know the answer. But I need your answer to the first.

Did you have a problem when Bill Clinton did this. Fact check. Wait, did you know Bill Clinton did alot of this?

Why do we need the VA? Can't veterans receive comparable care at the same facilities the rest of us use? I understand the need for special circumstances, but most veteran care is likely fairly normal.

Id be willing to bet the care recieved elsewhere would be much more than comparable.

As the son of a vet that spent 5 months in a VA facility

Wow guess you never read the suicide rates of vets to the general population.

Almost everyone favors cutting waste and employees not doing their job. The problem is that people are being cut not based on waste and corruption, but by the numbers.

Yeah but can we really trust any type of reasonable analysis by the government to determine where them the waste and corruption lies? Seems like it's essentially a budget cut and the agency will self correct.

Why do you think? They just wanted to waste money? **** no. Im going to start calling you Christian nationalist Pitt instead of nc Pitt cause you can’t stop repeating Fox News stuff. Look at the aging population, how about the ending of two wars bush started. How about trying to reduce pt wait times. Just **** you. Yoi magat scum.
I have already said that I don't watch Fox, but your head is so filled with garbage that you let anything new in.

None of those factors have affected demand since 2019.

Again I will ask, why do we need the VA? What are the revenues vs expenses? What services does the VA system offer, that hospitals already provide? And what services does the VA offer that are unique?

I'm fairly certain most hospitals are simply not equipped to handle the needs of veterans. Imagine walking into the Bedford area "hospital" with any significant issue.

VA hospitals exist to provide dedicated healthcare specifically tailored to veterans, offering them access to medical services related to their military service, including treatment for injuries sustained during service, mental health support, and specialized care for conditions often associated with military experience, all at no cost for service-related issues; essentially acting as a healthcare system designed to meet the unique needs of the veteran population that may not be readily available in standard civilian healthcare settings.

Key points about VA hospitals:
Dedicated to veterans:
The primary purpose is to provide healthcare specifically for veterans, addressing their unique health concerns arising from military service.

Specialized care:
VA hospitals often offer specialized treatment for conditions like PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, and exposure to hazardous materials, which may not be readily available in civilian hospitals.
No cost for service-related issues:
Veterans can receive treatment for service-related injuries and illnesses at no cost.

Accessibility:
VA hospitals aim to provide accessible healthcare across the country, allowing veterans to access care near their homes.

"suckers and losers". That's a terribly offensive quote. It's also something that never happened. That was some totally made up bullshit that Jeffrey Goldberg pulled out of his ass. He also lied and said he would provide the names of his sources. To date, he has not.

Goldberg was back at it again this election cycle with his story about Trump covering the cost of Vanessa Guillen's funeral, who was killed by a fellow soldier at Ft Hood back in 2020.

That's highly offensive, regardless of where anyone stands politically. I don't see how Goldberg sleeps at night.

That's a good reply. Thank you.

I have no experience with the VA. Do no cost for service related issues mean that no insurer, like Tri-Care, is billed? I am ALL FOR veterans not being charged for health care. Then again, I think that should apply to everyone.
