Just a couple things we've picked up today:
- To follow up on Jim's post earlier, QB Tate Rodemaker will be making his official visit to Pitt next weekend instead of this weekend. That's notable because he originally planned to visit USF that weekend; he's still currently committed to the Bulls, so him dropping that visit to visit Pitt is notable. He already visited Virginia Tech and the Hokies are an interesting competition here, but I've heard that they hosted another quarterback prospect this past weekend (Rodemaker was two weeks ago), so he might not be as much of a priority, depending on how the VT staff has the quarterbacks ranked.
Rodemaker has said he wants to get as many visits in as he can, but he's running out of time. There are only three weekends left until Signing Day, so there's not a ton of time. We'll see if he sets up a visit for this weekend - he's trying to switch the USF visit to this weekend - and then he might visit Baylor the weekend after Pitt if the Bears offer. But he'll be at Pitt next weekend.
- Pitt commit Jaylon Barden got an offer from Tennessee yesterday and told Jim that he was solid with the Panthers. I followed up with him as well and Barden told me he does not plan to visit Tennessee, despite the offer. We'll keep an eye on it, of course.
- Someone posted below about Pitt commit Bangally Kamara posting a picture of himself in a Cincinnati uniform on Monday. I touched base with Kamara tonight he said "I'm 100 Pitt Panther." We'll keep an eye on it, but I think he's solid (I thought that before I heard from him, but just in case...).
- Pitt's working on a few tight end targets, and we've confirmed one who will be taking an official visit. Noah Patty from Texas tells us he'll be taking an official visit the weekend of Dec. 13.
Patty doesn't have an offer from Pitt and said the coaches told him they would discuss it when he gets on campus for the visit. Given that and the fact that he's taking his visit on the last weekend before Signing Day, I would guess that his offer might be contingent on how Pitt does with a few other TE targets, guys like Carter Boatwright and Brandon Frazier.
Frazier and Boatwright both have offers from Pitt and they've both got interest in Pitt. Frazier is a newer target, jumping onto the radar after he decommitted from Arkansas. Boatwright has been on Pitt's board for a lot longer and he was taking a serious look at the Panthers before committing to Florida State in June.
Now that FSU is looking for a new coach, Boatwright is looking at his options and Pitt is one that he's considering.
"I like Pitt a lot. I’ve kept up with them this season and know they are having a good season. I really like the coaches that I’ve gotten to know. It seems like a really good program and school."
Both Frazier and Boatwright have said they would like to take official visits to Pitt but both have been waiting for their senior seasons to end. Over the weekend, both of their teams lost, so I would look for some movement there in the near future.
***UPDATE: Things change quickly in recruiting, and here's an example - Frazier just told me that he isn't looking at Pitt anymore and has communicated as much to the Pitt coaches. So we'll cross him off the list.***
- One final note: 2022 Westerville South WR Kaden Saunders will be at the Pitt game on Saturday. He's one of the top sophomores in the Midwest and already has an offer from the Panthers.
- And another update: Florida defensive lineman Ahkeem Mesidor will take his official visit to Pitt the weekend of Dec. 13-15.
