Cornell came in 3-2. I would hate to play teams they have beaten. Cornell's best player, Nolan Cressler, transferred to Vanderbilt and without him they are bad.
Jamel Artis scored 21 points. For the first time this year I thought he looked comfortable playing the No. 3 position. If Artis continues to improve Pitt could have a big year.
Part of the plan looks like we will get it inside to Young and Artis. They will kick it out to the three point line once they are double teamed.
Pitt scores 93 points with James Robinson getting shutout. Fortunately we have more options on the perimeter this year. Pitt will be very tough to beat on those nights where Robinson knocks down a few. They might win their share on nights where he doesn't.
It was good to see Nelson-Ododa stay out the floor. He played 17 minutes which is what they need to get from him. He is clearly the most athletic option at the No. 5 spot.
Right now we are still left with rumors that Pitt played well in the scrimmage against Georgetown and one half of play against No. 10 Gonzaga to give us hope on how good Pitt can be this year. The completion in the past three games has been dreadful.
We should know a lot more over the next week or so. Kent State is 3-1, No. 16 Purdue is 5-0 and Duquesne is 5-1.
Chris Jones and Sterling Smith both knocked them down last night. Jones scores 15 points and Smith get 9. If Pitt gets 24 points from the No. 2 spot they have a high ceiling.
