A little OT - Petrino still a swell guy

really $hitty. Petrino is a total POS. I have to admit though, after disgust at Petrino my next thought was maybe this is an opportunity for Narduzzi......If the kid is as fast as advertised, and as good of a person as his HS coach says, he;d make a fine addition at Pitt.

As sad as this story is, I took a look at the L'ville Rivals board when this story broke and the way the majority of posters there brushed this off was even more disturbing. Sports twists people. Common decency is thrown out the window in pursuit of win! win! win!.

Pretty harsh article. Seems scummy...but it certainly is not against the rules. I'm no Petrino fan...but he has to do what is best for Louisville--short term and long term. Guess time will tell...but Petrino has a track record of winning every place he has been...and some of the dirty, ugly stuff of college atheltics obviously does not bother Bobby. Best of luck to this high school player. Hail to Pitt!

Re: Reply

Best of luck to the young man, committed for 8 months and stuck with his commitment... Integrity !

Wherever he goes other than Peddstate, I hope he runs for 200 when playing Louisville.

Perhaps on November 21st he busts out for 250+ and three TD's!

I was on another message board and witnessed the same thing and I basically told them that I think they are a win-at-all-costs institution and that I do not respect that quality. The fact that they rehired Petrino and retained Pitino after their personal scandals, and they have taken on so many transfers who have run into serious trouble elsewhere makes me believe that even more.

Some people may aspire for Pitt to be more like that but I am not among the group. Call me naive or whatever but I know that you can still win without selling your soul to the devil and I don't respect schools that do sell their souls and then act indignantly when others call them out on it.

I think Louisville is a filthy, dirty cesspool of a program and I want to be nothing like them.

Re: Reply

As a UofL fan, alum, and the father of a freshman at the University of Miami, I have a hard time seeing the young man as a victim.

He was asked to delay his enrollment from August 2015 to January 2016, and in exchange he would have the opportunity to play football at UofL and get a free college education - bachelor's degree plus..... Meanwhile, my son and I will spend $65,000 (not counting student loan interest) for his bachelor's degree.

Colburn is a victim in this situation in much the same way that I'm a victim when I go to my store to get ice cream, only to learn that they are all out of chocolate, and I have to settle for neopolitan.

This kind of stuff, and it's not the first time it has happened to a kid, is a perfect example why the NCAA should start an early signing period. If there was an early signing period, mid December is the time most are saying, this kid could have signed his letter. And if Petrino still decided to screw him over the kid would have had 7 weeks or so to hook on somewhere else. An early signing period would also have prevented what happened with Givens. Givens probably would have signed in December and if he didn't the coaches would have been in a position the question his commitment.

If a kid signs in December then the coach leaves or is fired that kid would then have a certain period of time to vacate his LOI if he chooses.

Re: Reply

So Bobby boy shouldn't have accepted the kids commitment. Coaches get pissed and rightfully so when a kid flips at the last minute. Well it works both ways. When a kid commits to the school the school is also committing to the kid.

Re: Reply

Talk about being an apologist. A commitment works both ways. When this kid committed to Louisville Louisville also made a commitment to the kid. I don't care how much money you are paying to send your kid to school, the situations are apples and oranges. you got yourself a slimeball for a coach. But I guess as long as he wins it's OK, you can keep apologizing for his actions.

Conner, James, Ollison, Ibraham, Hall.

If we weren't so well stocked at RB I'd be right there with you. Any ships that are left will be better used on a player in more of a need position next year.

The Atlanta Falcons would beg to differ.

In case you didn't notice, I never said I was sorry. Because I'm not. UofL asked the guy to delay his entrance to the school for five months. It SHOULD be no big deal - the question everyone should be asking is why some people are trying to make it one.

If South Carolina or Clemson had done this, the head coach wouldn't have said a peep - it would upset too many people locally who are fans of one of those two schools. But since it's Louisville (and Louisville shouldn't be poaching South Carolina players anyway), the coach decided to throw a hissy fit.

UofL had the same thing happen to us when Charlie Strong was our coach. We had a year when Strong had to ask three Ohio recruits to grey-shirt, because we lost three scholarships due to a low APR score. One of the head coaches reacted EXACTLY like this South Carolina coach did - basically going to the media to say that Louisville would never be able to recruit one of his athletes again.

But yet in 2011 when Steve Spurrier at South Carolina tried to get Lorenzo Mauldin's to accept a greyshirt offer in order to accept the commitment of Jadaveon Clowney, not a peep from the media. So why is that?

Don't act shocked, how do you think schools are able to over-recruit. An article about a year ago showed how LSU threw a second year QB by the wayside and did not renew his scholarship because he was not as good as a QB they were recruiting. The Louisville article is only because it's Petrino and he's an easy target.
