I have NEVER believed in Pickett and I would like there to be a open qb job when spring comes around. Bring in a 5th year transfer, a juco, any qb with the abilty to THROW the football consistently. Someone tell me how has Pickett EARNED this job guaranteed for next year? Maybe with a better qb coach/coordinator that will change but after this season his starting job should not be set in stone.

There hasn't been much improvement, even putting this game aside. I don't think competition looks likely going into 2019.

I didn't think much of his passing but es encouraged he could be an effective rpo guy. But he isn't.

But but but 2017 Miami game. That should count for something?

I was never impressed with Pickette either. There was a thread after wake game people saying he was better than Palko. Pickett has a stronger arm and that is it over Palko. I would take Still and Tino over Pickett. He'll I would take John Ryan over Pickett.

A grad transfer or JUCO is a must. Pickett is instant grits out there. He's now started 14 games and he's horrendous. It isn't all on him but he's a complete and utter mess.

So its acceptable to have a qb who is NO threat ( Zero, None ) to throw the ball? You really think this coaching staff is that much incompetent to not even challenge the qb who so graciously leads the 120th ranked passing unit? Yeh sign us up for the ineptitude

Pickett is not Pitt's future moving forward. It is not all his fault that our passing game is so pathetic. A lot of the issues have to be directly pinned on Watson our offensive coordinator
as well as our receivers coach. If Pitt wants to improve both of these guys have to be replaced.
However Pickett had some receivers open and never got the ball out in time and in other occasions never looked down field at all and just sidelined it.. One problem I see with Pickett's
throws is he doesn't put any air under the ball. He only throws darts which makes it hard
for receivers to catch passes. If he does not have a complete open passing lane to a receiver
he just can't put the ball up for the receiver to run under it. It should be an open competition
next year because I don't think Pickett is a good enough passer to run a effective offense.

He might become a decent QB but right now he has been pretty awful. REally he played one game all year.where he hit some throws down the field and looked pretty good. He looked pretty similar against VT and Miami last year to this years wake forest game, like a solid FBS QB. But the other 11 games this year ranged from just below average to down right horrible. thats not all on the OC, OL and WR. Picket gets most of the blame. I think they need a 5th year or Juco guy who has a legit chance to start at a FBS school. If picket improves enough and beats that guy out then great if not oh well even if that means him moving on.

I still think Pickett could be a good QB in the right scheme, but I am also afraid that his confidence is also gone. Narduzzi has to have an open competition this offseason.

I told ya'll last year, Kenny Pickett not having to earn the job was insane!!! I'm going to keep refreshing this thread until he either...
A. Proves me wrong by slinging it like a Texas Tech qb
or
B. Someone, anyone is given a legitimate shot to beat him out
When your QB does not anticipate throws he ends up being inaccurate, erratic and makes the whole offense look worse. If he improves I'll give him credit but.....i just dont see it happening.

He did earn the job. That's what is scary. What is behind him is that bad. Something too many fail to grasp.

the

When did he earn it?? When was another QB given a legitimate shot??? Have ALL the Qbs take first team reps in similar situations against the same competition on defense....I never saw it in camp. EVER.

Okay so you guys where there in the spring and know what happened. Stop spitting your opinion as fact. You have no idea how this went down.

You may be right.

But sticking with Pickett all but guarantees 5-7 tops.

We can finish 5-7 with Beville or Patti

Actually I was, was in conversations and he was most certainly named the starter prior to camp

Add all the Pitt PR that had KP all through it, including ticket ads, passing stunts, the maneuvering for him to get into the Manning Camp... heck it was clear from January.

And one can see why they did, he is a likable tough personable gung ho guy. It would be a GREAT thing if he had blossomed into all dat. But wishing it alone doesn't make it so. Or I'd be Mr. Upton.

Speaking of the Manning camp, between that and the thing that Voytik went through (was it the same?). The next time we hear of a Pitt QB in the running for something like this, put him on a bus for Daytona instead, maybe the booze and broads are a better prep ... hey, worked for Johnny Football, why not Kenny Football...
