Very good info! What struck me about it besides the obvious, is how the highly ranked teams play their toughest opponents IN conference. Pitt on the other hand this year, plays it's toughest opponents OUT of conference. Fortunately we don't have Clemson or Fla. ST. this coming season. However, there will be some years where that bites us in the ass.
I'm not suggesting we play only cupcakes for our ooc games, but comparing to most (PSU by the way is a prime example) we at least have the guts to schedule at least two tough teams.

Pitt is not a cupcake for PSU!

I know but getting them to schedule us one to one was like pulling teeth. I mean I understand the rationale behind it.
This year, for example, they could've played Akron or somebody instead of Pitt and tortured them and more than likely been in the CFP.
But they finally scheduled Pitt and it bit them. So as long as you play in a conference that is as unbalanced from top to bottom as the B1G as opposed to the ACC judging by the 2 conference head to head record and bowl season records those ooc cupcake games are necessary.

Pitt isn't a cupcake NOW to PSU...But when they scheduled this series with us, we were in the midst of turmoil. We were going through coaching changes left and right, we had three 6-6 years.
Same with when they scheduled Temple....they and we were considered on par with Akron...hell, Akron had beaten us, as did Younstown St. So.... they saw us as the other ooc patsies they had
scheduled. The PSU lurker (Nittany 1997) a few posts back realizes it now...but misses the larger point of WHEN the series was scheduled.

Oh yeah, I agree with everything you say. I was more or less being sarcastic about all the cupcakes being in their conference.

Truth be told, every PSU fan should've been rooting for Pitt every game after that, if only to help their strength of schedule.

I guess I just wasn't sarcastic enough lol.

Good points.
