I’d imagine it’d be complicated since he still has years remaining on his contract. There’s likely “safeguards” in place so a player can’t just retire only to unretire and join another team. Perhaps it’s like coaches a trade would have to be involved?

Don’t believe they can do anything unless the team holding the contract gives permission to explore a trade. Any team that contacted him would be tampering.

And yes I know back door stuff goes on like it seems to be happening with Sean Peyton.

But people under contract can’t go anywhere. Otherwise I’m sure you’d see more guys “retiring”.

There might be some untoward things going on with Peyton, but for the most part the teams that are talking to him have permission from the Saints to do so. Because the Saints know that if they want to hire him they have to compensate the Saints. And the Saints would rather have a draft pick/picks than, well, nothing.

Agree and understood. After he did that interview on Fox I saw some things that said it wasn’t all exactly letter of the law. But as you’ve said if the. Saints can get something i imagine they’d be thrilled. And with multiple teams interested the price is going up.

I’d make him defensive line coach if we didn’t already have the best one in the country. The second he actually retires, Coach Narduzzi needs to offer him the Chief of Staff position i.e. Ed Reed at Miami.

At this point if he just was hired for minimal work to be a face on the team. You would think some big recruits would jump to learn from the man himself.

Agreed, and that’s pretty much what Reed’s role was at The U. Always good to get notable alums more involved with the program.
