Abilene, Abilene . Tin Soldiers and Nixon comin’

OHIO defeating UVA and Abilene beating UT is why I love this tournament. ORU beating TOSU.
Bring your game, not your name. None of this “we play games on our own floor {field} to increase revenue” excuse.
You have to win the actual game.
Shocka gotta be smarting today, eh.
The best performance I saw, and there were many, was UCLA last night. They thoroughly frustrated BYU all night with great defense and great shooting. I think they had a chip on their shoulder from being relegated to a play in game. Always loved UCLA from the old days. But I can't stand to look at Mick Cronin.

I wanted Pitt to hire Cronin when Dixon left. The Bruins’ future looks bright under Mick the Dick.

I think the amount of double seed wins is a decent indication that this regular season was not a true barometer of the quality of the teams. So the committee had no real idea but to hand out the normal seeds to the Big schools. But I don’t think most of the teams (except Gonzaga, Baylor and Illinois) have developed like teams normally do and so they just weren’t ready for some of these smaller schools.

The future will likely be bright at UCLA under Mick, with oodles of talent close by to pick from. Unless or until he does something to p!$$ off the players (like Chris Mack apparently has done at L’ville) to derail continuity.

The leverage pendulum has really swung to the players right now with the Portal. If there is no penalty in terms of having to sit a year when transferring, there are players who may get offended and leave if a coach so much as looks at them cross-eyed.

Mick has been a successful HC. His teams seem to play hard for him. But he also looks like he treads on the edge at times with his temper. Saying or doing something these days that is perceived by a player as being in any way abusive can cause a mass exodus. Especially with all practices being videoed and of course everything in a game subject to the intense scrutiny of the tv cameras.

Going to be interesting to see how this impacts things for some of the more intense, demanding and physically aggressive HC’s. Won‘t matter to, or bother, some players. But it might others.

Yeah I would’ve been satisfied with Cronin also. Would’ve liked to have seen what Enfield could’ve done at Pitt as well, he’s done a nice job at USC which has always been a tough place to win at consistently. I think he is able to keep it going there somewhat even after Mobley is gone.

Why on earth would Cronin have left a great job for a shitty one? UCLA is a step up from all but a handful of programs. “Satisfied” with Cronin? “Delusional” is a better description.

I was speaking of when he was at Cincinnati, where you can only go so far. Obviously Pitt is an inferior job to UCLA, everyone knows that.

Cronin made it no secret he was leaving Cincy, he had agreed to a deal in principle with UNLV before backing out at the last minute.

Not sure why you would think I was insinuating he would actually consider leaving UCLA for Pitt, that’s ridiculous.

Well Baylor certainly hasn't developed like a team normally does. They were great early, but since their covid pause they haven't been nearly as good.

Sorry, but UC is a much better job than Pitt, both now and throughout time. UC is 11 in all time wins while Pitt is hanging in the top 50 by a thread.
UCs tourney results are much better too.
Simply put, when Capel took the job it was not a top 75 job.
In the 4 years before Capel arrived, our. conference record was 21-51 and it was a decade since its last sweet sixteen.

I disagree. No one will care a whit about Cincinnati basketball a couple years from now.

One of the more underachieving teams in the country until about a week ago.

Loaded with top 100 players—they should be good.

Down goes...
Illinois 1 loses to 8
Gators 7 to 15
Hoopies 3 to 11
Cowboys 4 to 12

I think he grew up. Good coach.

Tin Soldiers and Nixon comin’..... Huh??

Maybe go with the Pretenders next time...

Well I went with CSNY instead of a British Band fronted by a girl from Akron. Since I’m a native, I get to choose.
uh, you chose the wrong school.

got to admit Ay, oh, way to go, Ohio is the go to lyric here.

Interesting story of the writing of that song. The group was in some remote location when the news of the Kent State massacre came down. Neil Young, upon hearing what happened, disappeared up a hillside and into the wilderness without saying a word. he came down a half hour later having written this song and demanded they record it and get it out immediately. It really struck a nerve in those sad times.

I didn’t know that. But a guy down the street from me was in school there at the time. I was an early teen and asked him about it that summer. He never went back. Years later I bought a beautiful piece of stained glass from Sewickley Stained Glass (now gone). The guy who owned it was in school then. All those years later he was still hurting.
