ACC moves this offseason

Has Pitt at #11. Looking back over the past 4 seasons the #11 ACC team has ranged between 5 and 8 ACC regular season wins.

That suggests a Pitt team at #11 ACC would finish with somewhere between a 5-15 and 8-12 ACC season and most likely at #11 with only 6 or 7 ACC wins.

If that is the way it plays out Pitt would need either 9 or 10 OOC wins to get to the ACCT with a 16-15 overall W-L record.

Hopefully Pitt does a lot better than 16-15 heading to ACCT tourney.

Yeah I think we should do better than that. But like we all know we shouldn't get any benefit of the doubt. This is the year to prove something

Your absolute annual obsession with being .500 or better as some type of significant barometer is SMF-level OCD.

Maybe you want Pitt to finish under 0.500 once again?

I am hoping for at least 20 wins overall. Perhaps by going 9-2 OOC + 11-9 ACC + 1-1 ACCT we would wind up 21-12 and headed for post season play.

That being said, even finishing one game over 0.500 next season would be an improvement over the past several seasons.

Obviously Johnson is the wild card. With the ball in his hands he can transform this team into a winner. Cant with to see this team play.

After 6 really, really rough years, I wish I could say "I can't wait to see this team play." It's just hard for me to get back up yet after being down so long.

But I can say that I was pretty excited for the 2015-2016 to begin. (Actually, the same can be said for the 2016-2017 season too, although it was a little weird as things were different without Dixon.)

Knowing this, since we added Dior, I think I can objectively say that there's probably at least as much pure basketball ability on the basketball roster as there has been since 15-16 or 16-17.

This much I will say ... I'm looking forward to being excited again. I think it's possible this can happen. I just can't pull the trigger just yet.

I'm not ready to say anything about this team until I actually see the TEAM and know the players that committed are actually on the floor in Pitt uniforms. Too much crazy stuff is happening in college sports now. There are no guarantees that the players on the roster today will be the players on the roster in game 1 or beyond.

So my attitude is wait and see and don't get your hopes up yet.

Yes. Same wait and see feeling here. Coaches' ability to "coach'em up" remains an open question even if the talent seems very improved.

That's the big question mark. Capel hasn't proven yet that he can coach or coach players up consistently. IF...a big IF, we actually do have the guys on the roster playing ball that are on there today, is Capel even capable of coaching them to show some improvement over last year?

Theres no denying this will be the most talented and interesting team Pitt has had in a long time , plus we’ll really get a feel for the staffs coaching abilities . I’m going in optimistic ,

ps…I’ve got plenty of experience in ratcheting down my expectations !

I sure hope so. You should know how much I love to get excited for Pitt Hoops. I just can’t take zero return per se. For example, horrible disappointments like Scottie Reynolds or Butler are very good things. What I can’t take is getting excited about something I know can NEVER take me anywhere. In the last 6 years, there have been a total of two moments when I thought this team could go anywhere. After the Virginia game in 16-17 and two years ago after beating Duke (@4Mark_Marty We’re Back!).

I just can’t go there in my head again until I KNOW there’s much more to go on.

Hopefully things improve and it’s fun walking up that hill again. And a couple IPAs pre-game at Fuel. I’ll see you in November at a non conference game . Cheers 🍻

No denying it’s been tough go for the Panthers and their dwindling fan base since ………
