CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – ACC commissioner John Swofford announced a financially successful conclusion to the 2019-20 sports year for his conference membership before highlighting the challenges of a cloudy future ahead following the league’s spring meetings on Thursday.
Despite the loss of approximately two-thirds of its projected NCAA Tournament monies, the ACC will distribute roughly 98% of its projected revenues to its membership. The Osceola reported last spring that Florida State athletic director David Coburn had indicated the initial projected ACC distribution for 2019-20 would be roughly $32.1 million per school.
The ACC will continue its two-decade streak of being under budget for the year, due in large part to more money flowing in from the ACC Network as well as a reduction in expenses for the canceled spring sports championships. ESPN televised all but seven live events (ACC Tournament) that were originally scheduled and therefore paid the league in full on their base agreement, allowing for the league to emerge from the pandemic-shortened year in “sound shape financially.”
The ACC Network was considered a success in its first year of operation.
