The biggest brands will get more money. This is in addition to the stupid "success" distribution formula. If Wake Forest is really good, nobody cares. Nobody watches. They shouldn't get more money. This is Capitalism, baby! It's not fair but it's not supposed to be. People want to watch Florida State so they should get way more than Pitt, Wake, BC, etc.

With this plus the "opt-in" to 2036, it makes me think the lawsuits may be heading to a settlement favorable to the league.

Also interesting in this is they may create more "marquee" games in football and basketball. So maybe not an even rotation? And more marquee games with ND, like maybe ND plays Clemson more.

None of this gets done under these terms without the potential of SMU.

Adding SMU in today's world was a wise move. They will be a viable playoff contender for many seasons.

They may not be the "brand" that comes with Clemson or Miami, but they are going to kick a lot of ACC ass going forward.

I’ve been saying the ACC should do this from the beginning.

Pay off the big tv draw teams to stay for as long as possible to keep the conference together for as long as possible. And let’s hope the something changes for the better in the future. But you have to be alive to benefit from whatever tomorrow might bring.

I think the thing to follow in that story is Clemson and FSU are asking in the settlement for the ACC exit fee to be reduced in 2031 when the Big Ten, SEC and Big 12 will all be looking for new TV days.

So a settlement probably only offers stability until 2031, not the 2036 ESPN deal expiration. Those last 5 years of the ESPN deal could be like the last couple years in the Big East.

I disagree. SMU may eventually bring in extra cash when the DFW cable systems pick up ACCN but I dont think they are a big enough TV draw, despite being in Dallas, to be worth many additional dollars to the league.

Seems like that could happen. Maybe they agree to something like reducing exit fees after 2031 but upholding the GOR. Inotherwords, it won't cost you anything to leave but your home games don't go with you so the B10 or SEC can add you but you don't bring them any monetary value until 2036. An OSU @ FSU Big Ten game would be part of the ACC TV deal.

I think we all know where this is going. The B10 and SEC are going to eventually add FSU, Clem, UNC, UVa, and Miami with schools like NC St, VT, and GT (B10 in Atlanta) being possibilities.

The remaining schools will combine with the Big 12 to form the 3rd conference. I just hope they keep the ACC name because it's older, more traditional, and doesn't have a stupid number attached that doesn't represent the membership.

ACC North
Pitt
WVU
Syr
BC
VT
Lou
Cincy
UConn

ACC South
UCF
USF
GT
NC St
Duke
Wake
Memphis
Tulane

ACC Midwest
ISU
Kansas
KSt
OK St
SMU
TCU
Houston
Baylor
TT

ACC West
Cal
Stanford
Arizona
ASU
Utah
BYU
San Diego St
Oregon State (Colorado is too good of a market to be left out of B10/SEC)

So basically, the Big East would be back and the Pac 12 would be back.

It's really up to ESPN to do a better job promoting the ACC. They only had one ACC location for game day all year. And it was Miami at Cal in the dark! No wonder the world thought a 9-3 Alabama team is better than a 10-2 Miami despite the Crimson Tide getting blown out by 6-6 teams in their own conference. Casual fans are just sooverly exposed to the SEC all the time, not only on top national broadcasts, but with all the fluff pieces and sycophants banging the drum and pushing their narrative that they are the superior conference in everything.

Of course an expanded playoff showed us all that the all might SEC is not as great as they think they are when they actually have to go somehwere and beat someone. As long as the ACC continues to have access to the CFP (it appears most years we will have a legit shot of sending one at large team in addition to the champion) we should be fine. But the ACC needs to do a better job building up its second biggest conference asset.

And that Cal Gameday was one of the best ever. Thousands of drunk students at 6AM local time.

They do need to chill on the SEC a little bit. Like Pitt @ SMU needed to be on ESPN2 instead of ACCN. The SEC is on ABC Primetime now so they don't need 3 SEC primetime games at the same time. Or what they'll do is put on an American Athletic game on ESPN2 primetime. I get that they want to promote ACCN but there should always be a primetime ESPN or ESPN2 ACC game. Put your #3 or #4 game on ACCN primetime.

I agree. But at least the SEC is on ESPN. B10 had almost as many sites and they aren't even on the network anymore! Fox or NBC never ever have their pre game shows at a conference site other than their broadcast partner. I get it Gameday always went everywhere but they have relegated their second biggest market to the same amount of games they give the FCS and D3. It's actually shameful and I hope it was addressed in the recent discussions. Because if not it probably would have been best for them to cut us loose and let us go somewhere else that will give us more love life Fox did with the non football Big East teams after the split.
