Division winners get the top 2 seeds, then the next 8 best percentage in ACC games get in. The last 4 must play a play-in game before advancing to the double elimination round.

As of Sunday night, here is how they stand.
There is a rare Monday night game involving 2 teams in the chase--Wake Forest at NC State

Pitt suffered a very bad sweep, but are still very much alive to break into the Top 10.

(using and adjusting Crazy Paco's model below, hope I updated it correctly)
DIVISION WINNERS
1. x-Miami 22-5 (.815) vs UNC
2. x-FSU 19-8 (.704) vs Duke

THE NEXT FOUR
3. x-UVA 21-6 (.778) @Wake
4. x-Duke 15-12 (.556) @FSU
5. UNC 14-13 (.519) @Miami
6. Maryland 15-14 (.517) ACC schedule finished

THE LAST FOUR play a play-in game
7. Clemson 13-13 (.500) vs BC
8. Ga Tech 14-16 (.467) ACC schedule finished
9. Wake Forest 13-14 (.482) vs UVA
10tie. NC State 11-16 (.407) @VT
10tie. PITT 11-16 (.407) @ ND

-----------------------------------------------------------

THESE THREE ARE OUT OF THE TOURNEY (as of now)
12. BC 9-18 (.333) @ Clemson
13. e-VT 8-19 (.259) vs NCSU
14. e-ND 6-21 (.222) vs Pitt

x = clinched ACC Tournament birth
e = eliminated from ACC Tournament

It is so hard to be a Pitt fan.

Franklin comes to PSU and establishes complete ownership of the state.

Dixon signs a freshman class (excluding transfers) which resembles a mediocre Duquesne class.

I get excited about the wrestling team and then they collapse in the ACC tourney and the NCAAs.

I get excited about the baseball team and then they get swept at home by a mediocre Maryland team in the most important series of the season.

But there is hope: the women's lacrosse team won a national championship -- a national club championship because the school won't field a varsity lacrosse team.

Only at Pitt

Football - Conferende Defensive POY, 1st Round NFL pick, Bednarik, Outland, Lombardi, Nagurski, Notre Dame victory, Bowl Victory, FWAA Freshman All-American at WR, Unanimous All-American at DL
MBB - Win at Barclays, NCAAT appearance, win over Roy Williams/UNC (9th coach with a ring that Jamie's beaten), beat rival PSU
WBB - ... 3 top 100 kids committed to Pitt
Wrestling - Beat #5 Oklahoma State, won ACC regular season title, beat rival WVU, Wilps Conf Champ & All-American
Softball - ... Beat rival PSU
Baseball - Beat three different top 25 teams, could make the ACC tournment when no one here predicted it
T&F - Penn Relays event win & Men earned a top 25 ranking without a home facility
Swim & Dive - ... Beat rival WVU

Additionally, our MBB coach represented USA Basketball (again), we had multiple athletes earn actual scholarship dollars from the ACC, and, for the first time in five years, Panthers could be selected in each of the three major drafts. That's not even touching alums that make Pro Bowls, are Rio bound (Gavin), or win major league awards (Zellous as WNBA MIP).

...That's one academic year. There are schools (& their attendant fans) with much larger resources than Pitt that couldn't experience all of those things in a decade. Being a Pitt fan in the 40's was hard. Being a Pitt fan in the 90's was hard.

Now, if you want to bemoan the ACC exposing this athletic department in a major way on a program-by-program basis this year, I could see your point there as only 3(!) of our 19 programs will finish with more wins/firsts than losses/non-firsts. That's an unequivocal wipe-out, no way around it. To that I'd say this: Pitt is fond of comparing itself to its peers and as we have a few years of ACC dollars things may look different. Those with an appetite for great teams have to know it's more likely to occur with ACC dollars (compared to BE/EWL dollars) & know that that greatness is legitimatized from ACC caliber rigor.
