For the ACC Tournament, the conference apparently selects the top 10 teams regardless of division (not that you'd find that anywhere on their website or in their baseball media guide or weekly press releases).

Everyone has six games left except BC, GT, MD, and VT. Interestingly, only one conference game was cancelled for weather all year, Clemson at Maryland. Here are the standings.

Place. team, conference record, overall record, series remaining

1. x-Miami 19-5 (.792) @Duke, UNC
2. x-UVA 18-6 (.750) GT, @Wake
3. x-FSU 17-7 (.708) @UNC, Duke
4. x-Duke 15-9 (.625) Miami, @FSU
5. UNC 13-11 (.542) FSU, @Miami
6. Clemson 12-11 (.522) @ND, BC
---------------------------------------------------------- teams 7-10 play one game before advancing to pool play
7. GTech 14-13 (.519) @UVA
8. Wake 12-12 (.500) @NCSU, UVA
9. MD 12-14 (.462) @Pitt
10. Pitt 11-13 (.458) MD, @ND
-----------------------------------------------------------
11. NCSU 9-15 (.375) Wake, @ VT
12. BC 9-18 (.333) @ Clemson
13. e-VT 7-20 (.259) NCSU
14. e-ND 4-20 (.200) Clemson, Pitt

x = clinched ACC Tournament birth
e = eliminated from ACC Tournament

I assume that Pitt only needs to win one more game to qualify ahead of BC since we won the series against them. But, there is very little chance BC will sweep Clemson on the road.

If NC State doesn't sweep Wake Forest, we need 3 wins to guarantee a finish ahead of them. If they do sweep WF, then we can finish ahead of WF if we win 5 of final 6. Even if we don't, WF's final 3 are against UVA.

If we win 2 of 3 at home against MD, they will be 13-16 and we will be 13-14 with 3 games left against last place ND. So, one win against ND and we will finish ahead of MD unless they play a makeup game against Clemson.

The fact is that we really will need to screw the pooch not to make the tourney, as we should go at least 4-2 in the final six. That would put us at 15-15 and we not only would qualify but could finish ahead of 3 teams now ahead of us in the standings. I know we have not done well against ND on the road, but this is a ND team which is 4-20 in the conference and just got swept at home by MD.

The Maryland sweep of ND occurred AT Maryland.

Turtle sweep

Not only should PITT make the tourney, they have a very realistic shot of finishing in the Top 6 and avoiding the dreaded "play-in game". Good luck to the boys pulling together for the May stretch!

I think we have a real shot at getting out of the "4-team one play-in game" bracket. Most of the team we'd have to pass are playing tough series, ours are "easier on paper", but still have to be played and won. We can take a giant step this weekend by taking the series from the Turtles.

Pitt has had a decent year in a very good league. Its just ashame we've been so abysmal against mid-major and minor D1 competition in the midweeks. Had we played well in those games, we'd probably make the NCAAT.

I think we will get all the way up to

7 or 8th with a shot at 6th.
