betonline.com has Pitt as a 7.5-point favorite.

Need to come out stronger than last game, thats for sure.... and having not played for a week can't be a good thing.

We didn't play for a week before the Davidson game and that turned out to be... a good thing.

We will see tomorrow.

Pomeroy has it Pitt by 7 and right now the consensus line in Vegas is Pitt minus 7-1/2.

Shocking how often something like that happens. Or at least it is to the blockheads.

Nothing shocking about it at all. The Vegas guys use pretty much the same or similar analytics as Pomeroy and Sagarin in setting their initial line.

People think the line is set based on trying to get equal betting on both sides.... but that's what moves the line off it's initial number... it has nothing to do with setting the initial number.

Actually the Vegas guys now pretty much wait to see what a couple of the key offshores like Pinny or CRIS put up and just clone that number. Very few real bookmakers in this town anymore, no one really willing to take an opinion.

Yeah... but those offshore guys are using analytics. And pretty much the same kinds that Pomeroy and Sagarin use.

Yep, they started going to the analytical method years ago, much to the consternation of the old timers, most who were never able to adapt to the math oriented approach.

When I started in the sportsbook business in the early 2000's I was taught by the old school guys, most who were on their way out. In their time there was no computer screen to monitor, they moved the numbers based on action, not how much was being bet but rather who was doing the betting. By the mid 2000's almost all Las Vegas books started moving on air, meaning watching a computer screen and changing numbers just based on what everyone else was doing. Very sad times for the true bookmakers that remain.

Well the natives will be restless if a Pitt doesn't win this game and rightfully so.

Yes, we know, every game is a must win situation, every loss an indictment of Pitt, and every win also an indictment of Pitt, because the opponent stunk, got unlucky, had a bad day, or Pitt was just lucky. We know the script.
Some will be "restless" if we win by 20. It's a disease, ya know......"Nutting Nuttiness Syndrome." I just started the National Nutting Nuttiness Syndrome Foundation. Please wire $$ to NNNS/Bank of Belize account # 7665213.

When you play a game, it's conceivable that your opponent may win. I don't know why this causes so much consternation among fans.

So melodramatic....some games, given particular circumstances can be more meaningful than others. This game takes on more meaning because: it's at home; it's the first conference game; Pitt's schedule has been very easy and the fans are trying to discern what Pitt has; Pitt was ranked for the first time in one of the polls this week and is on the verge of making some "national noise"; and Pitt is favored and therefore should win. If you read Dixon's quotes yesterday he himself emphasized that you have to win home games such as this. So all things considered, your rant is completely out of order and comes across as your trying to pick a fight. Happy New Year!

Such Bull$hit. If Pitt loses this game, it really raises serious questions about the quality of this team-it's that simple. You can try to con your away around that but that 's the truth! Go take your laxative-you'll feel better. You're slowly eroding your limited credibility with all but the small number of JIGets in your whacky clique.

No single game is this important. And that is why so many posters are frustrated with the negative spin you unleash at every opportunity. Syracuse is down but they have wins against two very good teams already. It is a should-win game, but a loss tonight is meaningless without the context of a larger chunk of conference play.

Better than being alone on Delpanther Island.I don't jump ship like you. I don't need a laxative...you need Midol.

My island is turning into a major land mass, actually to my disappointment. Just look at the empty seats.

There was nothing negative in my post. This is an important game and some games are indeed more important than others. This is a game we should win. If you don't see that or the implications of losing this game, you're not terribly intelligent. You simply have no confidence...that's the resaon the arena is empty!

Reading comprehension is not your strong suit. I agree that it's a game we should win and my post said exactly that. What you fail to understand - time and time again - is that no single loss can "raise serious questions about the quality of this team." This is especially true for Syracuse, who has already beaten teams that are objectively better than Pitt at this point in the season.

Your eagerness to pass judgment on the quality of this team based on a single game against a quality opponent is part and parcel of the negative slant of the majority of your posts.

And that's where you're wrong. If Pitt doesn't win this game tonight, the season isn't over but it will say something very negative about this team. Again your confidence in your boy is a veneer...you're a pretender! Syracuse is average and they're very young. Pitt has NO business losing to this team at home.

In light of the fact that Cuse has beaten two teams in Ken Pom's top-25, this is simply not an objectively reasonable opinion. It is at best the myopic musing of a negative person. And demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of college basketball. At worst it's trolling plain and simple.

If we lose tonight I will still have confidence that this is an NCAA tournament team. Will you?

no argument, there. The game tonight should be mostly, but who knows?? Everybody misses the BE.

Newsflash.....it's one game. Of course, you cried about the Bucs cheating you last April. You are NOT entitled to a win....not tonight, not ever. They keep score, remember?

This is an important game for us as it is a rivalry game, the only one we got other than the Dukes and no WVU these days, and it is at home and it is important to get off on the right foot to start ACC play. Also, Cuse seems to be having an off year this year, beat some top 20 teams but also lost to Georgetown and St Johns (??), and is currently just #53 in Pomeroy.

So, a game we SHOULD win. Will it be just a 5-10 point win or another Davidson?

If we lose it is not the end of the world or the end of the season... but it would most definitely be NOT GOOD. We would have to make up the loss with some big wins down the road. Would put us in a hole to start the ACC season.

Yeah, ya gotta win the games you SHOULD win and hopefully win some where you are underdogs.

Dixon has had a week to prepare for this one and the last two opponents we faced with that much time were Gonzaga and Davidson.

So, lets romp them off the court.

Play strong D, rebound, don't turn the ball over and, put the ball in the hoop.

New day, same manure from this Del clown.. Same hapless, boring infantile routine year after year. At least your pal zarasmfraud comes up with new trash regularly. You are too stupid to even do that.

Most of the $ and the betting volume us on Syracuse..fwiw
Public road dog

Line hasn't moved, how do you know? Don't bet much so genuinely curious. Always thought line movement was indicative of betting volume to a significant extent. Definitely don't doubt you, I'd have bet them as well. More curious as to why the line hasn't moved.
