We have a bigger problem, and that's recruiting in general. This class as of now is very average at best. No big time play makers on offense or defense. College football is 80% recruiting and 20% coaching.

Oddly enough, I think we're in the best shape we've been in for a long time on QBs. I like MacVittie and the transfer kid - and now the recruit is getting some good reports. My worry is on offense. I think the defensive recruiting will turn out fine. I am very worried about WR and not sold on QB moving forward.

I know he's not a game changer, but Peterman is not a MAC level quarterback.I am amazed with what Matt Canada is doing with MAC QB's and WR's. I've never seen a coaching job like this before. I mean this when I say I think Matt Canada should win that National Assistant Coach of the Year award. He wont but he should. What he has done with limited talent is incredible.
The question though becomes, how the heck do we get ACC-level WR's and QB's here?

Well he's certainly not a MAC level QB like the ones Central Michigan, Western Michigan, or Toledo have-all 3 of whom are markedly better players than Nate.I know he's not a game changer, but Peterman is not a MAC level quarterback.
To suggest that is asinine.
Wr? That's harder to say.
Pretty clear Henderson isn't. Coming in, Weah was an unknown.....glad he has proven some of us wrong. I think the main issue is youth.
I agree. Peterman has played better than any Pitt QB i can remember.I know he's not a game changer, but Peterman is not a MAC level quarterback.

New screen name same douchebag with his 80-20 narrativeWe have a bigger problem, and that's recruiting in general. This class as of now is very average at best. No big time play makers on offense or defense. College football is 80% recruiting and 20% coaching.
Agree. Chryst, like Walt, seemed to ignore certain positions in recruiting. Few years down the line... worst run defense, worst pass defense, whatever it got bad. Narduzzi is going to get really big-time recruits but it will be a process.IMO the recruiting at this point isn't all that bad. The poor recruiting in the past has given
us very weak LB'rs and CB's. Chryst and Randolph brought in great O Linemen and were
bringing in a pretty decent QB in Hornibrook who went with Chryst to Wisconsin. Their LB'r and DB recruits were very poor, and we're presently feeling the results.
Narduzzi immediately signed decent DB's but they aren't ready yet, they're redshirting, and
Hamlin has now seen the field. These other guys Maddox, Lewis, Motely, Jackson should
never even be playing IMO, however given the injuries and the fact that our best are probably
frosh, we have to wait a year or two.
I feel Narduzzi's recruiting is decent given where this program is. He's made great moves on the
DLine with average recruits. I doubt anyone would have predicted Jarrett and Soto to be coached
up as as well as they have. The Lb'rs were average recruits and they are playing decently given
their talent. As far as the DB's...well you can only coach em up so far. They can't perform miracles
with smurfs who were 2 star recruits. 5-3 at this point is what was expected. We lost games where
we picked to lose. 7-5 is reasonable given what Nards is playing with.
Other than Marino, Van Pelt, Congemi, Rutherford, maybe Palko. Who has been better than Peterman over the last 10 years?I can remember a decent handful as good or better but I think he has done a nice job and he's been doing it with a lack of big time weapons. He certainly isn't a weak point on this team.
Just a slight tweak and we are almost a sure thing for the division title this year.Agree. Chryst, like Walt, seemed to ignore certain positions in recruiting. Hamlin the other day was talking about choosing Pitt. Said he liked the challenge of Nardduzi's scheme relying on the CBs in man coverage. In a couple years Narduzzi can sell a program that competes for the conference crown most years. Maybe after that kids will come to be the star of the best defense in the country or something crazy like that.
It won't happen overnight though. Let's see what a full team of Narduzzi recruits look like and then after if he can keep raising the level of recruits we get. For now though I personally think he's doing an incredible job with this program considering what poor talent we have at most positions.
Tom Savage...currently on the roster of the Houston Texans.Other than Marino, Van Pelt, Congemi, Rutherford, maybe Palko. Who has been better than Peterman over the last 10 years?
Garbutt and Wade are still on the board, both would substantially raise our class ranking. You would think Wade would be down to Pitt/Psu with the turmoil going on at Tenn. Wade is set for an official to PSU this Saturday for another whiteout against Iowa. Does anyone know when he will be using his official to Pitt?
I think Peterman is a better college QB than Savage. While playing here at Pitt.Tom Savage...currently on the roster of the Houston Texans.

I have a lot of respect for Peterman, and I think he's getting a lot out of what he's got to work with.I think Peterman is a better college QB than Savage. While playing here at Pitt.
I bet the numbers back that up. By years end
I agree with you on the deep ball. Still given time he has shown the ability to throw strikes.I have a lot of respect for Peterman, and I think he's getting a lot out of what he's got to work with.
HIs one negative is that he doesn't have the "big arm": his long completions have been of the "catch 'n run" variety, such as Ordoff's big play last week, and most of Henderson's, too. Some of Pitt's past QBs (Rutherford and Savage, to name two) could really lay the ball out there in front of a streaking WR. But I don't think Peterman can hit Weah with a true long pass, which is unfortunate since Weah has the speed to go deep.
Good point. ^^^What you said^^, and Peterman's tendency for "tunnel vision": he rarely looks-off his primary receiver, and I can't recall a play where he pump-faked one way, then threw another.I agree with you on the deep ball. Still given time he has shown the ability to throw strikes.
My only grip with Peterman is he seems to tighten up on big 3rd downs. He doesn't seem to have that confidence when the game is on the line. Or when its a must to convert on a big 3rd down.
I call that the IT FACTOR. Some kids have it. Some kids don't.
Hoping one day Pitt finds that QB that thrives in situations like that. When we do. Expect big things to happen
