All of you who are so traumatized…

I do agree with this. He certainly wasn’t a hack. But he was the wrong guy at the wrong time with Pitt.

Yea I mean he was terrible here in 2 seasons but for anyone to think he was some horrible basketball coach simply doesn't know basketball. He was a decent coach but just a miserable fit here.

Most Pitt fans didn't want a tear it down and rebuild from scratch scenario when Dixon left. They wanted the new coach to build on what Dixon left without going south of 0.500 in Ws vs Ls. They didnt believe Stallings could or would do that--and they were proven right!

That's why Pitt should have kept Jamie (without lowering the buyout) and let him work through the roster he left behind, because it was doomed to failure, imo, and would have sealed his fate at Pitt without debate.

Jamie did a helluva job and overachieved for 8 years at Pitt, but at the end of the day, he's just another slightly above average HC incapable of sustaining a program at a high level. He's won ONE NCAA Tourney game in the last 10 years. That stat pretty much speaks for itself.

Obviously Pitt should have kept Jamie unless they had a better coach already verbally agreed to replace him. The same goes for Capel. Everyone wants to pay a billion dollars for his buyout and have a mid-major coach start from scratch with no players on the roster but if you're going to pay that type of buyout and suffer through a few more years with a terrible team, you better be a 100% sure the coach you hire is an NCAAT coach in Year 3 or 4.

His buyout is only $12 mil. That's not that much.

A fresh roster would be preferable to having this entire roster return next year. They don't have the potential to be good next year if everyone returns.

Why do you keep advocating for Capel coming back? It's like every day on here you give another reason that Pitt shouldn't get rid of him. Dude he sucks and his staff sucks.

I’m with you, because it’s seam Miller fans money that’s buying him out🤔. They gave him as an extension that he did not deserve for one second so now it’s their job to buy him out and get somebody in here that can coach. his time is over, I don’t give a s*** what happens these next final games.

Because I'd rather have Hugley plus the 4 guards next year than a hopeless season of all mid-major transfers with a MM coach.

Even with Hugley and the 4 guards we still will stink. I mean what don't you understand about this? Capel can't coach and neither can his staff. And

You expect Pitt to pay $12 million to buyout Capel so they can hire Dennis Gates from Cleveland State, who may even be worse. And don't say "nobody is worse than Capel." That is very naive. Clearly, there are plenty of MM coaches who are worse. We just dont know who they are.

That’s what Capel gets is mid major transfers if you haven’t seen that already. And again you think that the entire team is coming back which is very wishful thinking. the kids read and listen to social media, they know that pretty much everybody thinks they’re a joke and you don’t think other teams are reaching out to any of these kids or at least friends of theirs and saying they could go elsewhere to a better situation.

We may still stink. But we are guaranteed to suck next year with a MM coach and a whole new roster.

If they transfer, Capel is gone so its a moot point. Capel coaching an entirely new roster next season is not a consideration. That won't happen.

Its Capel, Hugley, Femi, Burton, Horton, Sibande vs MM Coach and 12 transfers.

So delay the inevitable with another wasted year of Capel and his staff? C'mon. You're just wanting to kick the can down the road.

Femi probably will leave. Doesn't seem happy here. Body language. Others might leave too.

You’re absolutely correct that there could be worse. But Pitt sucks so bad the trigger needs to be pulled and the sooner the better. I don’t know how anyone can look at this long term and think it’s gonna get appreciably better. By your logic Capel should have a lifetime contract because the next guy could be worse.

In a sense. You save $3 million in another Covid-ish year with nobody in the stands (even if we had a MM coach) and you show potential coaching prospects you can commit to a coach for a long-term. Coaches will see you extend a guy after 3-15 and 6-14 and then fire him with 5 years left on his contract 3 years later, 2 of which were Covid and injury disrupted years.

Definitely time to go is sooner than later. hopefully after this and Capel’s stench gets out of this program that Pitt learns their lesson and does not give an extension unless it is slightly warranted. if a coach is gonna leave from success it’s gonna happen but don’t give an extension to make sure that a guy doesn’t go to His alma mater when he had no chance in hell of that ever happening.

No lifetime contract. 1 more year to get to the NCAAT with Hugley and a bunch of 25 year old guards.

Hahahaha. You still high or loaded from the weekend? NCAAT? All the sudden he’s gonna take that much of a leap? You are out of your mind.

Miami and Wake.

I am not predicting NCAAT. Just saying with Hugley an old AF guards, he's got to get there or awfully close to it to keep his job. If he were to just miss out on the NCAAT and returned Hugley again plus lets say 2 of Horton, Femi, Burton and he has the Brush HS kid signed, its fair to give him 1 more year.

It’s actually not fair to give him a year, I don’t have the exact record in the ACC but it has been posted on multiple accounts that right there is proof that he does not get one extra chance. anybody with that record would’ve been fired two years ago.

Wake is not a good example. Wake got turned around in 2 years. Its year 4 for Capel and there’s little reason for any hope. Don’t know enough about Miami but Larranaga’s been around a while there and not sure they’re a good example either.

And that team won’t sniff an NCAA tourney. I don’t care how old the guards are. They’re nowhere near good enough.

They may not sniff the NCAAT but Wake landed a bench guy from OU that has become ACC POY. Capel doesn't need to strike it that big but if he can get a PG of say, Woodall caliber, and a PF of say, Gueye caliber, the team has a chance, I'm sorry.

And why would those transfers come here, exactly?

Conveniently omitting the part about the on-court stuff…you know, coaching. Game day stuff. A
well coached team would still run their sets at BC absent their leader. Can’t just focus on what bodies may be here next year. Maybe a collection of transfers can be coached to resemble a team. We’ll see, I guess.

A collection of transfers and a MM coach is going to be historically bad next season. Best-case scenario, they go 7-13. Another rebuild and another waste of a year. Our best chance NEXT season is with Capel + the old guards. I cant do another rebuild yet.

Our results will be worst
You're making a lot of assumptions here

They may well be. But the ceiling of MM Coach + MM transfers is 7-13

The ceiling of Hugley and the guards plus key transfers is NCAAT. I'm not predicting it but saying its semi-realistic.

You need 3 "plus-players." Hugley is 1. Burtob could develop into another. Maybe someone else has a great leap forward.

Next year is more than likely a lost cause either way. After 4 years, it's pretty obvious Pitt has a leadership problem. I think they are well aware of that and will attempt to correct it.

They will but Sean Miller Fan can't root for the new coach
