He teased the Pitt fans by pulling a Pitt hat out, and then he threw it to the side.

We can all be dumb as teens but he also had said to the media he would change Pitt's culture because they don't get elite players like him. Ok.

Here's something that isn't teasing.

Amari Evans averaged 10 points per game, 3.7 rebounds per game, and 1.5 assists per game in the EYBL and he shot the 3 ball just over 30% and his team finished in 7th place in his division. Numbers like that generally get someone bounced right out of the National Top 100 unless you have some insane athletic ability / potential, which he does not. He did not live up to the hype this summer unlike other players like Dixon.

I mean, Witherspoon averaged almost 16 points per game and played out of position as a point guard and still had better rebound and assist numbers than him. And I said Witherspoon was / is on the cusp of a top 100 rating. And Witherspoon's numbers were significantly better than his. Significantly....

If Evans said that he's delusional.

Ish is an impressive young man. Capel has been able to bring in kids with talent like Ish who also are unselfish and Team oriented who work hard. As I said earlier a kid like Evens who isn’t all world isn’t with the risk of spoiling the chemistry. Dixon was a far bigger loss/miss IMO.

Capel has demonstrated he can find talent is other ways (Dunn,Amsel) so I’m not worried about losing a clown like Evans

Really looking forward to seeing how good this years team can be

It really appears if you follow the timeline that when Pitt got Witherspoon, the program’s interest in Evans ended. Maybe it was a $$ thing that prioritized Witherspoon over Evans, or maybe it was the “bird in hand” approach, but it appears that Witherspoon is what the program wants and he might end up being the better player. And it sounds like Evans might be jaded that Pitt had other ideas and went in a direction that was better for Pitt.

We needed / wanted a playmaker somewhere in the offense before going into the portal. Here's what these guys bring to the table, taking Lowe currently out. And this is a very quick synopsis.

Cummings- Scorer 1st, Scorer 2nd, playmaking 3rd, he might not even play backup point this year because of how the pieces fit
Dixon- Scorer 1st, playmaking 2nd
Witherspoon- Scorer and Playmaker
Evans- Defense followed by secondary scoring
Denis- Scorer with major upside because of athletic ability, stats dont support his current national ranking. He's not a point guard.

If we want to put Cummings at Point in the future who currently lacks playmaking skills but can score (lets just say like Gibbs, you need a playmaker along side him like Wanamaker and we got Witherspoon who to me reminds me of Lamar Patterson the most who was a scorer and playmaker.

Dixon was the guy we wanted. Dixon was the guy we were showing up to his high school weekly. The other guys probably know this, and in Evans case, was probably bitter we wanted Dixon far, far more than we wanted him. Dixon was a major priority, Denis and Evans were not. Denis might end up at Wake Forest because Kansas quit recruiting him and Im not sure UNC wants him either. Denis has high upside, but he is going to need a few years most likely before he starts meeting his national ranking and freshmen expectations. Denis national ranking is getting hyped because of upside. He isnt as good as Witherspoon right now either.

Witherspoon and Dixon was the home run class. But we missed on Dixon sadly but we will respond via the portal or maybe some other prep player blue bird. Maybe the kid who decommitted from Virginia who were are sniffing around?

Mallory is much more of a natural point guard and playmaker with an elite assist to turnover numbers, he is outstanding managing the ball and controlling the offense which is why he was previously a perfect fit for Tony Bennet. He's also a pretty darn good shooter. His biggest issue is size. Mallory and Cummings could form a good offensive 1-2 punch with Witherspoon as a 2/ 3 , but if we go that route we better bring in some major athletes in the backline to help our defense and rebounding as we will need it.

I believe the staff is taking a strong look at him for potential fit here. Mallory will have a lot of schools going after him.

Trilly put a CB into UNC for Denis. Rivals put a CB in for Wake Forest for Denis. Just so you guys know, Denis is not coming here if you dont know that by now.

Do you think Dixon is going to hit the ground running as a freshman? UVA recruited Dixon pretty hard too, but they were pretty open about wanting him to take a redshirt year.

Why do you say Pitt needed a playmaker before going to the portal? As long as they get talent from somewhere, why doesn't it matter if they get them in the freshman class or from the portal?

Yes I think Dixon plays early at UNC.

Getting a 6'4-6'5 power 6 guard that is a scorer / playmaker in the transfer portal (especially one that can also rebound) is going to be a player in high demand. Jamarius Burton turned into that type of player after 5 years in college and making a " major" jump in year 5. Players like Carrington, Wanamaker, Patterson, etc.. are players that do not grow on trees. In other words, there are not a lot of them that can stuff the stat sheet across the board at a high level and the ones that do are highly coveted that win a lot of games.

We have done well the last 2 years with Burton and Carrington. Witherspoon is going to try to be the next one that can fill a stat sheet in multiple areas as a big guard. We took the correct player in Witherspoon and missed out on Dixon. I would not worry about the other 2.
