One of the many gifts that Pickett has is his ability to scramble and pick up key first downs. In the Miami game he kept a few drives alive by willing his body to move the sticks, even running over a Miami defender to do so. A few years back Voytik didn't run because of the lack of depth at the position. Pitt would suffer on offense if Pickett is forced to be a pocket QB only. Throw in the fact that the O-Line will be breaking in some new players, especially if O'Neil was to leave then it makes keeping Pickett healthy even more precarious. With Browne this year the offense had to be limited and the results showed. With a skinny depth chart Pitt would have to pare down the risk/reward elements of their offense. It will be difficult to bring in a talented QB at this point to be an emergency option, but all stones must be turned over to explore their options. It's not only to have depth, it's essential to allow the offense to function at a higher level.
