while he was qb for NC state. seem to recal as alays was bitter loss and needed the win-failed ,in spite of failed comeback

Yes
A brilliant mind on scout claimed he would be working at TEH foot locker when I suggested he’d be a pro .
I don't like short qbs as a general rule, but I liked him a lot as a pro. Didn't know he'd be borderline HOF good, but I really liked his chances of being a good starter. He just is so natural and smooth.

Yes. Running QBs used to kill Wanny. Nunes, DJ Hernandez, Zach Collaros, Matt Groethe. I remember Russ running wild for like 100 yards in the rain. Think he had 4 TDs passing too.

Interestingly enough, aside from a few cases, Narduzzi defenses have been effective at stopping mobile QBs over his time at Pitt.

Truth is, he is incredibly football-smart, in ways that make up for his deficiencies. He was way smarter than Wanny was, and he still is.

You can see that he's lost a bit of his mobility, but his ability to process the defense and make the right play is fun to see.

That 4th and 15 when Russ ran for the first down. Sheard totally blew containment. I think that drive culminated in tying the game.

Like the Cincy game, when Stull was needed to make a big throw he couldn’t come through.

Wasn’t Adam Gunn out in that game and Mason had to start as a true freshman? I don’t think Pitt has had a legit two deep since 1989.

Was at that game. That 4th down was a killer. Pitt still had a chance and I remember Dickerson being killed in the end zone and broke his nose or something from a brutal hit.

The lack of a DL rotation is what ultimately killed that game. The 1st 4 were gassed.
The perception was that the 2009 team was stacked, but the depth was pretty bad. The DL's two back ups were Lindsay and Chas, but both were young. Duhart was kicked off the team, Doug Fulmer never recovered from his 2006 injury and Bernardo Nunez never panned out.

The linebacking unit wasn't deep nor did it possess a lot of talent.

yep, exactly. You could see in that infamous game against Cinci when we botched the extra point that there was no way we would stop them on offense and Cinci would drive all the way for the winning TD.

Tangerine bowl…Priestley and Antonio Bryant had a big day, along with the freshman nose tackle from Woodland Hills who unfortunately never played after that game.

actually Tyree Young started the 2002 season, was dominating the first 2 games and was tearing up Texas A&M until a cheap shot knocked him out with a broken leg I think. He never returned after that/

I believe Walt Harris said at his Tuesday press conference that it was a cheap hit on Young, which got back R.C. Slocum, who then defended his players. I think two Aggie linemen were in on the play.

I was at the NC State game with Russell Wilson.

I remember telling Mrs. NC Panther - "see that little guy for NC State? - that's their QB and he's the only one that can beat us"

Sure enough...

Was at the Tangerine Bowl as well sitting in a sea of red unfortunately - much better result though.

Do you remember when Mason Rudolph and Washington tore up Pitt 2 years in a row and both were drafted by the Steelers and the Steelers won the Bourbon Bowl..well do ya?
