Anyone hear anything on Partridge to Texas?

There’s a well-connected Texas poster on the national board claiming Charlie Partidge is a possible name being floated to help Chris Ash and the Longhorns’ defense.

Haven’t seen anything reported on this so I’m doubting the validity of it. Has anyone heard anything about this? Perhaps some of the pay board members know something about this or could squash this rumor?

If Vuk hasn’t reported it, there’s nothing to it.

Hes flirted with others before. I want him to stay and hopefully pitt ponies up a respectable offer should he look elsewhere. Make no mistake, he is worth every penny. And I'm sure pitt knows that...
Without him we are missing half of our recruiting class including most of the top rated guys in it.

People who claim to be "well-connected" usually aren't.

Exactly. The guy knows Florida. And his results showed on the field yet again. If pitt were ever to pay an assistant close to head coach salary, hes the one. The Canada offer a few years ago should be a low bar.
Pitt can't pay a non-coordinator that kind of $$$. Nobody does that or can do that, not even the big dogs.

You are advocating elevating a D line coach to a 7-figure salary while we have an offense that can't get across midfield.

I am advocating giving charlie an offer more than we offered Canada. Hell, as you stated with our offense, I would let charlie call plays on offense as well. Send whipple away and save money there.

I didn’t add that because he calls himself that, and if he did it’d be pretty tacky, but by what he’s been ahead of in the past. Called Ash to Texas before it happened.

I’d call BS on it and wouldn’t even share it in any other instance, but he at least has hit on a few before.

Kind of like The Dude? Close enough to have a general sense of things but only correct often enough to be known. The guy who was hired to be PSU's OC was also rumored to be going to Texas as well. I'm just too cynical, I guess.

He’s my buddy’s neighbor. Let me see if he knows anything. He has told my buddy that he doesn’t want to leave. He really likes Pittsburgh and has moved around enough.

Anything can happen, of course, but he does like Pitt and Pittsburgh and it likely won’t be a Canada “throw money and he leaves” situation. More will go into him leaving, whenever that may be.

That’s what I thought. He’s going on eight years in Pittsburgh, he has to like it here. To be honest, the only way I could see him leaving is for a DC or head coaching job elsewhere. Hope you’re right!

If the class will unravel if he goes there are ways to compensate and motivate the man to stay at PITT.
If he can put together another class after this in-coming recruit class full of stars = Pay The Man!

As noted, he just received a pay bump and AHC title. Paying your top assistants top dollar is exactly what a program like Pitt's need to do. Retaining top assistants is much more likely to happen than landing a top 10-15 head coach.

I’ll use a basketball analogy to demonstrate the importance of a good assistant coach. Remember Barry Rohrsson as Asst Coach for Pitt hoops? Recruited NYC; Pitt hoops top 10 for years. Once he left for Manhattan things slowly unraveled. I agree; pay Patridge.

I'm not buying the rumor.

There are better connected to Texas assistants out there.

Now....if someone like FSU or Auburn called I start sweating.

Pitt's class is signed (except for a few spots they may look to fill in February). So nothing "will unravel".

As far as this anonymous message board rumor about CP's future is concerned, until something from a legitimate source materilaizes, it's meaningless. If/when the time comes, then Pitt would have to take what action they deem appropriate.

Connect the Dots:

1) Charlie P gets offer from Texas.

2) AD Heather Lyke just has an impromptu press conference that all Pitt football coaches will be back next year.
PK
3) Charlie P gets a well deserved raise.

Nice to see Pitt step up. If got to pay to play.
