after he was hired, and Canada told him "if we can keep Nate Peterman healthy we're going to score a lot of points this year"?

I've thought of that post many times watching Pitt play during the course of this season. Peterman has really handled the offense beautifully.

If Pitt can keep Matt Canada fat and happy, I think we're going to score a lot of points most years.

Be good to see him be mentored by his friend Coach Duzz for a couple seasons before he goes to a head coaching position... Much like Coach Duzz did with Coach Dantonio.

Go Pitt.

I agree. Pitt should be able to retain him for the foreseeable future without making him a top 10 paid OC. I think he will get a lot of interest, but I don't know that many teams will be going all out for him just yet.

-This was last years highest paid OC's. Canada is already at Top 10 money. Kiffin is now the highest paid from Bama. Cam Cameron is done at LSU.

I'd have more confidence if his family moved north with him. As it stands, they're still in the Raleigh area. Here's a few clips of his son from this fall's season: http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/chris-canada/SpJipQsoEeWrOKA2nzwY6g/videos.htm
True, but I have to say, moving a 16 year old kid who is not a top recruit, but has a shot at being the starting QB would be really tough. Of course, that is one reason these guys make several hundred thousand dollars.

Canada will get several good OC offers. There's no question about that. Pitt is going to have to match a lot offers and even then, it may not be enough. If Canada wants to be a HC, he may feel his path is easier at a higher profile school.

A Pitt OC can land a G5 HC job. An OC at a higher profile school can land a P5 HC job.

Canada may not want to go from Pitt OC to MAC HC for example. He may want to go from Pitt OC to Florida OC (just throwing out a random school) to Illinois HC (again, random school).

I don't think it is impossible to go from Pitt OC to P5 HC. Most people 5 years ago would have put MSU in the same category as Pitt in that respect. Most important is the talent and results from the coordinator and then the success/program he comes from. If we can win 9+ games for the foreseeable future and maybe 10 or 11, a coordinator can get hired from Pitt to a P5 job. However, I think Canada has a far more issues than the typical coordinator and it has little to do with being at Pitt. He has had some success, but he has also had a lot of questions over the years. To hire an OC/DC straight to a P5 job, he basically has to have an unimpeachable resume and reputation. Also, he should be an ace recruiter. Neither of those line up with Canada. The latter is something I think which will even keep him out of a lot of G5 posts.

Putting up 43 on Clemson was a big deal. But it seems the movement of coaches is to hire offensive guys more than programs used to. He would be smart to stay with a head coach who gives him the freedom to make the offense play to it's strengths. With more talent in the skill positions and QB who has the size arm and speed/athleticism to upgrade the position, he will have something special.

-This was the exact problem at both Wisconsin and N.C. State, to a T. And why Canada dumped Wisconsin after winning the Big Ten Title and posting 70 on Nebraska in the title game. The head Coach wanted to run the offense and not give Canada the freedom to run the offense. Narduzzi lets Canada run the offense

Given likely coaching moves, if he doesn't remain at Pitt and takes another OC job, I see Fla State or LSU to come knocking.

-In about 10 different posts you said it would be smart for LSU to hire Canada. Why dont you leave this board and go over to the LSU board and start talking with your LSU friends on why LSU should hire him. Because you for sure are not a Pitt fan.

Ok, Canada is here to stay FOREVER! Hell, a birdie tells me he'll take a PAY CUT to work for our beloved Panthers! He BLEEDS BLUE and GOLD!
Jesus! I'm a proud Pitt alum who has lived and died with all Pitt teams for 45 (all but one) heartbreaking years! Just offering a rational opinion. Sheesh....

If Pitt offers top dollar I don't see why he would leave for the same position
Just be careful using the term "top dollar" here. Anyone know how much Lane Kiffin gets paid at Bama or some of the other top OCs?

The top 3 or so are outliers, so really we are talking about $500k to be top 10.
I agree. But that is not top dollar. Top dollar is the outlier. Top 10 I would guess Pitt would and should pay to keep this guy.

Ok, but I don't think anyone is actually suggesting we could match Alabama on anything budget related. I'd interpret paying someone top 8% money as paying "top dollar" just as I would consider being a top 10 program as being a "top program" even if not the top program.

LAST YEAR, for the 2nd time.

-While there is not a collective list this year, 850K would put him Top 3 in the country, a 200K raise from right now. And no, some random 2nd tier SEC school is not going to offer $1 million plus for Canada, forget about it.

No because it's not " irrational " to think he would stay...so really the honest truth is you are stirring shit.... just be real about it because that's what you are doing. And anyone can see it.

I think, no inside knowledge just guessing, Pitt will be willing to go to the 800k to 850k range on Canada's salary. Chances are that's about all they are willing to pay. If he gets a offer at 1 million plus he is likely gone. But he may be willing to stay another year, before moving. PN asked him for a two to three year commitment they are friends my guess is if pitt gets him in the 800k range he will stay for one more year before moving and maybe even then he stays.

Dan Enos just got a bump from about 550k to 700k at Arkansas, because some other programs have been showing some interest. I think that's similar to what we can expect to see happen with Canada.

Pitt will pay him whatever

Liking who you work for and what you are doing are 80% or more of the deal

I like our chances of keeping him

Hail to Pitt
