Gruden was talking about coaching with Mike McCarthy at Pitt back in 1991 under Paul Hackett. Gruden was the WR coach and McCarthy was a grad assistant. They then showed some practice footage from Pitt Stadium that showed Gruden coaching wide receivers. Pretty neat.

It is a shame our administration put a choke hold on the program during that time period.

The quality coaches who have come through here is staggering....
Just once if Pitt could have kept one , that 30 year lost period may have been avoided.

Yeah the talent at Asst coaches vs the talent at head coach is pretty vast throughout our history

Yep
And no more than since JM I

Not to mention those who wanted this job.

Thinking off the top of Alvarez who dearly wanted it but Posvar, perhaps tanked, handed it to Buddy Hackett.

Pitt screwed Pitt.

At what point during the game did they show the footage?

I think it was some time during the 2nd quarter. It was pretty cool.

Yes, the assistant coaching talent at Pitt reminds me a lot of the Cleveland Browns of the mid-90s. Belichick as head coach with Saban as DC, Kirk Ferentz as O-Line coach, etc.

There's a chance Alvarez sees what a clown show the place is and bolts after two seasons even if he did get hired. Remember, J Office O'Connor came shortly thereafter.

It shows how bad Hackett was especially with those asst. coaches . My freshman year in 1991 had Curtis Martin, Keith Hamilton, Sean Gilbert, Alex Van Pelt, Dietrich jells, Ricardo Mcdonald on that team. That's nuts.

Pitt's asst. coaching alumni list is a who's who of the football coaching world.
And...we had current Jax Jags OC Nathaniel Hackett and the great Tino Sunseri running around the place like romper room. That was 2 long-ass weeks at UPJ in shitty dorms with no AC. Ah, memories...
